I started my 6.5 this morning pretty warm out 70 degrees or better. Started fine but sounded like it wasnt running on all 8 cylinders...motor was running rough(wobbling pretty good) I started hearing a pretty loud repetative knocking sound.....I gave the pedal a knudge and she leveled out and ran fine. I think its probably an injector but dont know...it was a pretty loud knock which can be injector related. Truck has about 120K on it actually 127K with the bigger tires on it....Am I due for injectors, she doesnt smoke bad or show any signs of bad injectors. Ive abused the heck out of this truck since i was 18 in 1997 when we bought it. Its a roll off truck been abused like hell.....What are the signs of a crankshaft going?
Thanks in advanced
Bill

I'm not sure about the knocking sound, but if it leveled off and ran smooth after startup, I would check your glow plugs first, and the lift pump. I believe if the injectors or crank was bad, they would cause a problem all the time, not just during startup.

Check your harmonic balancer to insure long crank shaft life. As Stingray said, that's not gonna be your problem, just a note to check it.

Glow plug bathroom material found here (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39182).
