How far does the wastegate turn under full boost ?
Example - Movement of rod 1/2" or 1" or ? or wastegate swivel 1/8" or 1/4 " or 1/2" or turn ?
I have clamped an "aperatus" to the wastegate rod to hold an extra spring for a few more lbs of boost. I don't know if I have enough clearance for full wastegate swing under full boost.
Hope this is not a dumb question. I have tried other ways for more boost that did not work. Trying to get somethng for nothing :o:

When I had it on the bench, this is what I saw for movement of just the rod. Not sure how far this would open the gate flap though.

Hey gmccal I just installed a banks big head and when I put air to the wastgate I could barely even see it move, I thought something was wrong but aparently it does'nt open far to bleed of the exhaust. So I am asuming it only moves about an 1/8" at the most. Hopefully someone else chimes in but this is what I found.

Thanks for the input gentlemen.
And Elowe 65, those specs are definately exact.
I was going to pull the Wastegate, but some great Engineer designed one of the wategate fastener bolts behind another line going to the turbo. I did not feel like breaking seal to this line to remove the wastegate hold down bolt.

You can undo the bolt by th eline, it's just a real PITA!
When I installed my banks big head, I modified the bracket so that I could just under the shaft nut, undo the to nuts that held the pod on the bracket so that I could pull the pod assembly out without having to undo the main bracet on the turbo.
Made for making adjustments alot easier. takes about 5min to do an adjustment now.

Elowe65 -- that's great data you posted. I take it that's for the stock wastegate. Have you done the same test with the Big Head? I notice the wastegate is starting to open below 15 psi. That indicates we're dumping even with a stock engine. And it only gets worse with more fuel.
I've added a spring on my actuator (poor man's Big Head?) but I've only seen a 2 psi boost increase. Maybe I need something more.

Was this movement from a stock waste gate loose on the bench? If so then it does not represent movement when installed. In order to check movement you need it installed on the turbocharger then repeat the above test. This is due to the fact the spring in the diaphragm is preloaded when installed. If this was done installed on the turbocharger then it's good data.
