My 2005 3500 duramax service truck will not rev over 2000 Rpms. Anybody had this problem? Any ideas?

mine did that it threw code 88 and 89 which are fuel related. had to put a new fuel pressure regulator in. is your ses light on?

Probably a P1093 - insufficient fuel rail pressure.

Shut off truck, restart. Repeat 3 times.

Do you have a PTO switch?

No, the check engine light is not on. I let it sit for a few hours and now it will run fine, but there is a noticable power loss. It is going to the dealer tomorrow. She has 13,000 miles in two months so it hasnt been sitting around. We will see what tomorrow. Thanks

Fuel filter changed yet?? If not setting codes I would check it, had to change mine out at about8k for no power.

My lly will power to 3500 using the predator.....However, I threw a code, which caused a "limp" mode as I understand it, and it acted like yours...

Do 10 cycles of key on, key off.....

It worked for me..I probably limped my tranny...

My truck is doing the same exact thing with the predator installed. I can actually leave the programmer hooked up, and when it goes into limp mode (P1093 code is the code it gives me on the DTC readout.) I can punch "erase DTC's" and the truck will take back off like normal....

I have a 2005 Chevy Duramax and Edge unit with monitor. I have had limp mode happen to me several times....still researching solutions. No SES lights or codes!! I have heard that it has something to do with the fuel line pressure. When running on less than a half a tank the sensors have a low tolerance and throw into a limp mode....cant go over 2000rpm or 30mph.?? I have heard & read all kinds of things. Does anybody know of any permenant solutions? other than some sort of sequence that only solves temporarily.

Get your juice updated. I have never set a 1093 with my edge upgraded to ver 1.2 Before i upgraded I would set them once a week or so.

Do a search on P1093 and shim. Use at your own risk.

everything is up to date. I have replaced module 3 times with brand new ones. the last module was the latest to come out of mfg...less than a month ago.

When it throws the P1093 code it doesn't set an SES light, and on the DTC readout on the predator it says "unknown fault" It's hard to figure out what exactly is causing it when it's an "Unknown" fault... It's aggravating that we can't even boost the HP of our trucks and not have problems with it...

Friends 05 is doing the same thing starting 2 days ago. He was on freeway doing 65 floored it to pass and wouldn't go above 2000rpms. Since then as long as he doesn't floor it he can drive it at any speed, but the second he steps on it he says it won't go above 2000.
It is doing this with and without the edge. And the DIC isn't displaying any problems(no check engine or limp mode). Please let me know if this is similar to what is happening to you other guys.

Yes!! This is exactly what happens to me. I have spent a lot of time talking to techs about this. They say it has something to do with the fuel line sensors/pressure. That it is a GMC CHEVY problem...but when coupled with a chip it can increase the chances of happening. They say sometimes different vehicels sensors can have different tollerance levels...some can be affected and some will not. I have heard at an all factory level this problem can happen with less than a half of tank of gas. I have recently read that GM has some updates out on fuel line pressure and injector problems. Mine is going in to the shop tomorrow for a check on this. I will let everyone know what I find out. I am not a mechanic or really mechanically inclined.....I am only relaying on the things that I have been told.

Here is the low down. I got my truck out of the shop today. They did a check and there were no codes and no lights on. THey did a different test and found that I had a faulty fuel line pressure sensor. They stongly believe this is what was causing my truck to go into limp mode. They also mentioned they have had some problems with this recently on '05's. I get this replaced next week....so...I guess we will see if this fixes the problem....but sounds feasible.

Guess I'll be having a talk with my local GMC dealer tomorrow... :D Thanks for the info

This exact thing happened to me today when I was about 2 min away from my destination. I limped the truck in and then tried to rev in the parking lot. It would rev to 2k rpm and then it was like it hit a rev limiter. I tried to start the truck and repeat the process a couple times, and no luck. I let the truck sit for about an hour and then restarted, problem was gone. I was thinking maybe its past time for a fuel filter since I have about 18k on this one? Also, at the time it happened, I was just about 30 miles from empty in the tank.
Should I just change the filter and call it a day, or take it in for diagnostics at the shop?

FYI - I have a 04.5 LLY built in April 2004 with 40K miles on odometer.

I am not a mechanic or all that mechanically inclined. There could be a lot of different things that push your truck into limp mode from what I have heard. It just so happened mine was a fuel pressure sensor...which is what I had been hearing from a lot of other people. My truck has 14,000 miles on it and the fuel filter was still okay. I would get them to check both fuel filter and diagnostics...but remember mine threw no lights or codes...I am not for sure what the chevy dealer did exactly to find out that I had a prob. with fuel line pressure sensors...but it showed up bad. Good Luck!!

Are you sure there were no codes in the computer? It is possible to throw a code and not set the SES light. It's called a soft code. That is what mine is doing, it sets a code in the computer but doesn't trip the light.

ksracer: I would chalk yours up to running it too low on fuel, if it sucked air for half a second the fuel pressure sensor picked up low fuel pressure and set the limp mode...

I don't let my truck get lower than 1/4 tank. It's just a habit I have gotten in to. I'm not exactly sure where the fuel pump is on our trucks but any late model vehicle with the fuel pump in the tank uses the fuel in the tank to keep the pump cool. If you consistently run it low on gas/fuel it has nothing to keep the pump cool and it will shorten the life of the fuel pump.

No light or codes on my truck. I know it is hard to understand..but that was the case with mine.

Thanks for the info black05, that makes sense to me.
