I just drove by the dealership and seen a Summit White 2004 3500 LB CC D/A 4x2 on the hill. I will be stoping by after work tomorrow to look at the numbers.(per the wife)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I took down the VIN and found out tonight it has the LB7 not the LLYhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif.

Are there any Benefits to the 2004 LB7 from 2003 LB7?

I was originally looking for a white truck and this one has a lot more options on it that would suit my wife more.(Got'a Keep Em Happy Ya Know)

Can any one help me out on this?

Paul, post the numbers here and we'll see if someone can get you a 'GM Driveway' certificate to get the price down to about invoice with no other costs except tax. Happy to be of assistance.

More concerned about the 04 LB7 and possible benefits over 03 LB7

Well, it is not a "benefit" but my dad has an '02 LB7 and he runs at a lower rpm than I at the same speeds (particularly highway speeds). Kinda wierd! I have an '04 LB7. Both have same tire size (stock) and rear-ends (3.73).

You have me curious now? Are both trucks running the same rim? Are both trucks autos or is one a manual tranny? How much RPM difference?

I believe the '04 allison is reprogrammed for the power of the LLY, so both the LLY and LB7 might be getting the reprogrammed tranny. That could be the difference. I'm sure someone with better info will chime in...

Yup - both are stock trucks - both are D/A auto tranny - stock wheels. I posted another thread on this site about the same issue and no one seemed know exactly what to make of it either.

Maybe there is a diff between the '03 and '04 Allison's like tysmith states. Its the only thing that would make sense to me.

The tranny either has different ratios particularly overdrive or somehow you got 4.11's?Edited by: Bronco

The Allison has improvements for '04, but if you check the GM site, you'll find that the functionality of the new parts is restricted to the 8.1 gasser and the LLY.

I wonder why they would add support for the gasser and not the LB7. It must be another of those cost saving decisions. Since the 8.1 will outlive the LB7 it was considered worth the cost of reprogramming.

Oh great - rub salt in those wounds!!!!! I just posted in another thread that I was a little peeved over the fact that I purchase and brand new truck that has an outdated engine already!!!!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Well I wouldn't feel bad about it, you've got a great truck on your hands. While I like the idea of getting the new engine and it's higher power ratings, there are a couple of other considerations.

While I'm sure GM has done testing on the new mods, there is always a chance it could go like the 6.0 PSD.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

There are not any of the performance programming devices available for it yet.

It's got EGR and a CAT.

So while I think it's going to be great and I'm going slightly nuts waiting for mine, time will tell if it's all great, somewhat great, or a problem....

Every time I have bought a vehicle that had no aftermarket support, I regretted it, and finally traded it in. I am sure there will eventually be a great deal of support for the LLY, but until that day comes, I wouldn't trade my LB7. It only takes a few minutes and a few hundred dollars to get over the 590ft-lbs of the LLY, so don't sweat the small stuff.

Well I stopped to see what we could do trading in my 2003 3500 C.C. D/A long bed with 6100 miles on it. Man do these things seem to depreaciatehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif. Dealer said he would only give me $24,000 trade on ithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif. Kelly Blue Book said Trade should be $31,100 in excelent condition and $29 550 good condition. Private sale should fall in around $35,000. I looked on Auto Trader and that seems to be what dealers are asking for this truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif.

I guess I am confused. Or am I being takin for a Ride?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Any way I guess We will keep this one for now. Don't think a hit this hard is worth a change in color and a year newer truck.

Thanks for all the replies.

Paul,

Keep yours unless you get a private buyer to give you what you want. You've got a beautiful rig!

I have the LB7 in my 04' and I'm real happy with it. No Cat, No EGR and you can't beat the grin off of my face when I drive it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

The guys at work are waiting for the warmer weather so they can take a look at it. It's just too cold at the Lake right now to stand out in the parking lot like and idiot and freeze.
