:help:

I had a 2-piece steel shaft in my '01 2500HD, but I was having the infamous 'shuddering' when I started towing my 5th wheel. After an extensive search, I found that the dealer wanted about $700 for an OEM shaft. I found a guy off of Ebay that builds aluminum shafts. I gave him the part number off of my friends 2003 CC/SB and he built me an exact OEM Spicer referenced one-piece aluminum shaft delivered for about $250. Guess what, no more shuddering.

I also have a slight shudder between 45 to 50 mph & then it quits. Is this the same thing you are experiencing??

My shudder was from 0-15 when towing my 5th wheel. When not towing, it was from about 30-40 and then again from 60-70. Replaced the crappy 2-piece design that GM released a TSB about with the one-piece.

ABQFirefighter you don't happen to know the measurement of the shaft from the centers of the u-joints do you?
Good to meet another firebug! I'm a proud member of Station 42 VFD Morris TWP!:ro)

I'm not lucky enough to have a one piece DS. But I am lucky enough to have a truck with a wheelbase longer than most cars total lengths.
Did have small shudder after 4" lift install but used front end align shims to correct.

Yes, why?
After I read your post I did a search on ebay and the only one I found was ujointmaster, their feedback seems to be excellent. I hope I can assume you have been satisfied with their service and quality of their product.
I plan on contacting them as soon as my dealer tells me that I am completely out of luck as the shudder I feel is "completely normal!".
After all a custom built D/S with new ujoints for less than $300 is a steal in my book!
ABQFF, my D/S is about 73 1/8 long what was your final dimension? Did you have to give it to them or did they know?
thanks

I crawled underneath my buddy's 2003 CC/SB and got the Spicer #, not the GM # off of the shaft tag. He was able to build the correct OEM shaft, with new u-joints. The new shaft had a a Spicer tag on it and all. I only had to use my OEM yoke off of the old shaft. Give me another day or so and I'll get you that Spicer #.
