: cold heat??
SlammedLLY 12-05-2010, 07:32 PM now thats its getting cold ive noticed that the heat is room temp and it takes FOREVER to get to room temp even with the nobs turned to 90...and when i turn the fan all the way up it sounds like it wants to die, the fan kinda has a pulse or shuttering noise...anyone have any ideas on what to tell the dealership, last time i brought it to them they took over an hour "troubleshooting and looking" for the problem..want to bring it to them and be able to say replace this and this
Max Power 12-05-2010, 07:46 PM Sounds like head gaskets and a bad blower fan.
dmaxboy08 12-05-2010, 08:11 PM before i would jump to the headgaskets, i would start with the thermostats. is the engine getting up to operating temp? does it take forever to get there? are you sure the truck is full of coolant? low coolant can cause a "low cab heat" condition.
Tanc Crusher 12-05-2010, 09:00 PM Does the fan still do that once it is warmed up?
Brian
0R3GON CCLB 12-06-2010, 08:28 AM mine gets plenty warm plenty fast at 90 but any lower than 90, like 85 or so feels like A/C, so i either have really friggin hot, or cool air that is at least warmer than the outside air. blower sounds fine.
SlammedLLY 12-06-2010, 12:46 PM after driving for about 20 minutes my truck gets to around 190, never gets to 210, and please dont say the head gasket word, havent had any low coolant lights come on yet and hope not too
SlammedLLY 12-06-2010, 12:47 PM Does the fan still do that once it is warmed up?
Brian
dont know but i will listen to it next time when i drive for a longer period of time
SlammedLLY 12-06-2010, 12:48 PM is there a heating element or what, how does the heat work???diagram or components?
Max Power 12-06-2010, 01:20 PM No heating element. It uses engine coolant circulating through a heater core. Your engine needs to be warm before it will blow warm air. Diesels take longer then Gas engines to warm up.
dmaxboy08 12-06-2010, 04:23 PM alright well ur truck is getting up to operating temp and its not overheating so you can rule out a waterpump and thermostats. have u phyisically checked the coolant level? maybe u have a plugged heater core? find the heater hoses running into the heater core and see if they are both warm to the touch.
dmaxboy08 12-06-2010, 04:28 PM i would be willing to bet its a heater core problem. another way of testing it woudl to be disconnect the feed tube and return tube to the heater core and run water thru it and see how much comes out the return side. but i would start by feeling them first to see if ones hot and ones cold
SlammedLLY 12-06-2010, 05:26 PM wheres the feed and return lines, or wheres the heater core and im sure i can follow some lines around and figure somethin out
dmaxboy08 12-06-2010, 09:56 PM heater core is located in the hvac box on the passenger side of the truck. the 2 heater hoses run in thru the firewall on the passenger side
SlammedLLY 12-06-2010, 10:08 PM heater core is located in the hvac box on the passenger side of the truck. the 2 heater hoses run in thru the firewall on the passenger side
will look for it tomorrow...whats the thing thats wrapped in some heated insolation next to the fuel filter, its similar in size i guess...im guessing it has to do with AC hints all the metal coolant pipes coming out of it
0R3GON CCLB 12-07-2010, 10:10 AM your heater core is generally inside the cab, maybe behind your glove box or somewhere in that region. what you are seeing under the hood is all related to the A/C i believe.
sierradiesel 12-07-2010, 01:26 PM I had the cold heat problem and someone suggested to flush out the heater core. I thought that was bs, but I tried it anyway, and now I am getting more heat out of it than I ever have. I've even had to turn the temp down!
dmaxboy08 12-07-2010, 02:07 PM if u do flush the heater box, be sure to REVERSE flush it.
SlammedLLY 12-07-2010, 07:16 PM well i would do that execept the water hose is frozen because it wont get above 30 here....whats happing on the east coast im going crazy
