I have a 94 2500 4x4, in the last year it has started to act up at the gauges. Periodically, while driving all of the dash lights come on steady at times and wildly flicker at other times. Most times when I tap the brake the problem goes away momentarily, goes on at times for 10 - 15 minutes then can dissapear for several days..... any suggestions.

How's the dimmer for your dash lights? (Not condemning it, just asking) You may need a meter to figure out what's up here.
There seem to be some grounding issues with these trucks.

Jukican, the headlight switch itself is a good place to start. They do give intermittent problems like you describe, I've had mine apart and was able to clean the contacts to make it work again.
Check to see if the parking lights flicker at the same time as the dash lights do. If so then the switch is probably the problem, if not then it could be the wiring behind the dash. Sounds like a loose connection somewhere.

HAd a similar prob with my 94. Replace the headlight/dimmer switches and problem was fixed. Not sure if yours is the same but thought I'd mention it as it is worth a look.

Had a similar problem with a '94 S-10 that I once owned. Not only did the dash lights flicker, but whole dash lost power - radio, fan controls, 4wd shift indicator - you name it.
Fortunately the vehicle was under warranty, and I was miles from home, half way to Alaska. Took it into a dealer and they replaced the headlight switch and dash ground. Supposedly it was a know problem.

I've had the exact same problem on a 94, i pulled the dash and the connector that plugged into the back of the dash had partially melted the plastic so that the contacts on the plug that contact the circuit board were intermitent, i think this is caused from prolonged use of the headlights as i left mine on all day. I simply used a piece of a paper match stick folded up in the dash socket under the circuit board to make contact again, worked great until i sold it.
If you can smack the top of the dash while they're off and they come on this could likely be it.

On my 1994 I had the same problem. I thought it was the headlight switch.. pulled the switch and it was spanking new. Found the GROUND for the dashboard that is under the Emergency brake release was broken and causing the problem. Sometimes the simplest things.....

Thanks all,
I ended up changing the headlight switch but that didn't resolve the problem.......but the ground issue for the dash panel did......thanks again all.
