Yesterday I installed my new Bilsteins and cranked my torsion bars all the way up.Had feeling it will cause tire wear without a front end alignment. I am I guessing correctly?

Yes. Because your tire is tilted so it will run on the edge of the tire. They can wear out really fast that way, and also handle like crap. Get it aligned as soon as possible.

You know boys, that may not be entirely true. I've driven my '01 with cranked tbars, 3 to 6 turns, and no alignment for coming up on 60k miles. Yes, my Toyos are nearly worn out, but they're nice and evenly worn. They've been rotated every 5k miles when I service my pickup. In fact, it never occured to me to align the front end until I saw so many here advise it. My thoughts have been to wait and see. Now, with nearly 100k 0n the chassis, it still has the factory alignment. Good as new.

I've got about 10k on my H2s. I didn't get an alignment after cranking and they are wearing even for me. I may have turned them 4-6 turns.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but this whole cranking the tbars thing has got me confused. If I crank the tbars to get 2 inches lift on the front and get it aligned will I ***** the front end (suspension parts) or just make it ride rougher ? all i want to do is be able to put 265 or 285 tires and 16x8 rims with 4.5 inch back spaceing . I know this has been covered to death ,all I want to know is who has done it and what was the result good or bad .I will get the new body style hd in 2007 when it comes out and I don't whant to spend the money on a lift if I dont need to .I would prefer to spend the money on an Alaska moose hunt this year ,and bag a moose with my SMITH & WESSON 500 MAG PISTOL. thanks to all who reply in advance. it's not that i'm a tight wad ,but too many toys have me spread kinda thin money whise .

4 to 6 turns are all that I needed to level the p/u and still clear my tires. They are essentially 33's(lt285/70-17's) on H2's. And a little trim on the plastic valance below the bumper.
Good Luck.

He was asking about when cranked ALL the way up.. 3-5 turns I wouldn't worry about it, but cranking them all the way up is usually 9+ and will change the alignment... I have seen a lot of local guys with tires worn out on one side of the tire and not the other because of it. I figure 50 bucks to get it aligned is better than buying a tire.
