Ever since I got my LLY I've been hanging around here reading threads,
hitting the search function pretty hard, and identifing the mods I considered
pretty much a gemme... at least for me.

First I started with the exhaust. Went with MBRP, a little pricey but a quality
exhaust! I'm very happy with this decision!

Next I added a Racor 645 fuel filter kit. I like having the additional water
sensor. Cutting the fuel line was an experience! I did the install with the truck
on stands. For those who don't know, diesel doesn't wash out of clothing well.
I now have a nice new (shirt) rag for the garage!

A couple days after I got the Racor installed the Van Aaken and Auto Meter
gauges arrived. Now I did my homework and for what I want out of the
truck the VA sounded exactly like it would fit the bill. I'll be pulling a 12,000lbs
5er and I wanted a nice performance boost while keeping my EGTs as low
as I could. And as it turns out, I really like it! I pulled the 5er 120 miles
today in 90+ temps and the EGTs never got much over 1300*, and that
was short lived. And there was a noticable SOTP gain both with and without
the 5er hooked on!

As for the gauges, I would like the thank BMDMAX for posting his gauge
install write up!! This simplied the install greatly and gave me the confidence
drilling the exhaust manifold!
I opted for an A-pillar mount and it turned out great IMO. And the gauges
look and work great.

This leaves the Moto Metal 950 wheels that are supposed to be here next
week, I'll post pics once they're on the truck.

Well thats about it. I do have a question which I could never find a definitive
answer for;

What are the ballpark high end EGT's?

I want to know when I need to start being concerned!
Thanks all! Great forum!

I would be concerned by the time it hit 1300 to be honest. That's an awful lot of heat even for short durations. I know people here take it higher but I don't plan on it.

why is it a diesel can't run as high of an EGT as a gas burner? over the years i have had many turbocharged vehicles (both car and motorcycles ) and have seen above 1800* EGT's AFTER the turbo, and never had ANY melt-downs or problems
