I would like to make the exhaust less restrictive on my 2003 Sierra Crewcab. I don't want to increase the cab noise. Has anyone installed a muffler that provides a little performance increase without the added noise? I plan to install a K&N FIPK. Otherwise the truck is stock. Chris

Many many people have done this. Search for "replace muffler" and you will find a lot. Personally my truck is too quiet without one...

I have installed the 4040L resonator muffler from aero-turbine.com and it has been great (4"). Mileage has improved and the sound is just like stock or better.

It's not easy to reduce restriction without increasing noise. If your system is whisper-quiet, then it has to have restriction to do that. You will have to compromise. I've got a 4" Magnaflow straight-through muffler spliced into my OEM 3-1/2" pipes. It gives a great reduction in backpressure and EGTs, but increases exhaust note and sound. Some have gotten good results from the Flowmaster high performance ovals - like Nar said, do some searching, but be forewarned that there is no free lunch, it's either quiet or open, you can't have both and will have to choose which you want to sacrifice.

Just bear in mind that advice given from the LLY's guys here might not work for you. I have an LB7 and a LLY with the same excact exhaust system. Took the cat off the LLY. The LB7 is a lot louder. I think this is because of the turbo differance. I have actually ran the LLY's without a muffler or cat. The LB7 is still louder than them at all but full throttle. Then the 50 mad vacuum cleaners come out from the LLY!
