If i ever buy my 2500 Avalanche with the 8100 back from my second cousin I was thinking Raylor and can't decide on supercharger or a turbocharger. It would not be a STS setup. Seen some have a turbo upfront there with the engine.

Your truck has to run pretty damn good. I keep thinking that after a cam I will be done w/performance mods. You ever do a 0-60 time on a nice cold day? I am curious. Long tubes might be a nice upgrade from the Gibsons. Heads might be fun. A turbo or supercharger would be radical. But it is nice to only have to worry about oil pressure & water temp. W/a boosted gas motor you need to be concerned about pinging, boost, and EGT's.

The fastest 0-60 times ive had is 6.8 sec but thats with wheel spin, i cant get it to hook up. My truck weighs 6880 with me in it so i dont think that time is to bad. Heads would be fun but i want to get the most for my money and i think raylars heads run right around the price as a SC but it would losing weight to so im lost at what would the most for my money and reliabilty

That is pretty friggin' quick for a big ass truck. Is your truck a 2x4 or a 4x4? I have wondered what my truck weighs?

I dont worry about any of those things. Set the tune up right and your done. My setup has been worry free for years. Getting ready to make a move on a blower cam and new valve springs soon. With a boosted truck you will see your numbers change quite a bit. My best 0-60 is 4.9 seconds and my truck weighs in the 6600-6800 range. Heads will not do as much as a supercharger but they will help for sure.

A whipple went for over 2k recently on ebay. Whippled 496, if you lived next door to me, I would buy one, you got your tuning down. I would probably owe you lots of beer.

Get a diesel. It sounds much easier than all those mods. I don't think there is anyone making a blower for these any longer. I think it was short lived.

They are still around. $2k sounds about a right for a used kit.

The diesels are going fast with just a tune now so I can see why it would be an attractive route to take. If you dont care about the diesel/gas difference and money is not a huge concern a diesel would probably get you where you want to be for less Mod money. I have learned that arguing about which is better is like asking which color is better or which bottled water tastes better. I just like my big block and I think its a unique engine to have.....so for me its just a preference and you can make either one go pretty damn fast if you want too.

Which mods are easier depends on the mechanic turning the wrench...sometimes easier doesnt mean better. I like getting into difficult projeccts (automotive or otherwise) because if you have the ability to do them, the results are usually very satisfying.......usually :)

Money is an issue since my bigblock is already pain for. And have a pretty good amount of money in it already, I'm with you whippled I like my motor. I guess no one makes a supercharger any more them?? Just used?

I run whipple intercooled on my 8.1 best purchase I ever made. 105,000 miles and i beat on it daily. my brakes are the only thing that has had to be replaced. I will never pull the numbers a duramax can put down on the dyno but my truck blows off the line like a raped ape and i dont have to buy $1000 fuel pumps and fuel injectors. I do 420 hp and 650ft-lb with a rich, conservitive tune. keep the 8.1 on the rich side with forced induction and everything will hold up fine on the motor.

I just switched from Diesel to my 8.1 Gasser! Diesels are awesome when they are new and still under warranty! I just got rid of my 2004 6.0 Excursion with 82K miles on it. The thing was a money pit after the warranty was over. I decided I could buy tons of gasoline for the money it was costing me to repair it every time it broke down! Keep that in mind when buying a Diesel truck, they are expensive to repair and cost more to maintain. Being a previous Diesel owner, in my opinion they just are not worth it!
