I had my service man look at my AC and he added some freon. That did help but did not totally fixed my problem. I can have it on level 5 and on recirc and it is fairly okay when the outside temps are 90*. When they reach 100*, the AC barely helps. I ride in my wife's 2000 caddy and my nips are rock hard.
I have been reading about alot of problems with these pathetic ACs and saw where they are having an AC accumulator and hose assembly put on. How much does this cost? Difficulty? It seems like that has fixed ALOT of the problems out there.
Sorry for the continued AC saga questions!

How did he determine it was low on freon? It may still not have enough or even have too much.
The only true way of knowing how much is in it is to evacuate the system and weigh it.
BTW, is the air flow good?

Air flow is very good. That has never been a problem.
As far as knowing it was low, he says he has worked enough ACs and I guess the pressures were too low.? It did help some but not even close to fixxin the problem. How do you know what the next step is?

Unfortunatly it's probably going to be "bite the bullet" and let them go through it completely.
A/Cs are just one of those things that takes special equipment and training that 99.99% of us don't have.:(
And high-dollar parts...............

Has it only recently degraded?
measure your vent temps. simplr prope thermometer at checker or autozone.
Keep it standard, like, degrees drop from ambient on high, recirc off. That is the best way imo to measure your ac capacity. Not low, not recirc! Make sure you crack a window for each test as you progress with attempts to make it better.
The other very likely improvement, is a nose shroud. More air over the condenser at speed.

Here is another two cents. Check your cabin air filters. Replaced mine last year, and after returning from camping in yellowstone, ac was freezing up. thought, must be low. checked it with a gauge, looked alright, gave it a quick shot (you know, 1.1 oz of freon, 1.1 ox of compressor oil)
Still sucked. took it to reliable service department, replaced the cabin filters immediately. much improved. Now had to have the accumulator replaced, went ahead and replaced the orifice and they are flushing the compressor system for a problem stated as 'too much oil in system'
The accumulator was full of it from my own stupidity and trying to save a buck. Someone replied correctly, many think they know what they are doing with an ac system, but find the right person and it is money well spent!

Take it to reputable dealer and take a copy of the TSB with you. Get a digital temp probe if you can. Middle upper vent recirq off, fan at "2", RPM at 1500-1700. you should see in the low-mid 40* range. Compare to TSB data. If no good, have the dealer fix it. If you are out of warranty take it to a GOOD ac guy and take the TSB with you.

Thanks for the great advice guys. I did replace my cabin filters but last fall. Not alot of dirty conditions so I dont think so. I will apply the temp probe as stated above and go from there too. How do you know if your AC guy is a good one? They start talking and lose me right away.
I bought the truck last spring and it had 68K miles on her. Now it has 98K. AC is I remember was lacking last year as well.

Ask around your group of friends for local dealers. If you ask dealers or chains you will always get the "our guy has 25 years experience" whic could mean they got 25 guys with 1 year experience (been there done that!). Call and ask if they can follow the TSB checks and tests and explain completely the results. Best bet, go to your dealer and ask to talk to the AC repairman or if they send it out. If they send it out (small dealers do that sometimes) call theyu vendor of choice and ask them about it.
Good luck.

Just got the dealer to do the TSB on the 3rd time in (twits) works great now. Didn't work for beans if over 95 out previously. Going to Yuma dove hunting we will see how she does in the desert.
