Yesterday, all of a sudden, it was kinda hard to get my truck into 5th gear, like it didn't want to go in. Now today, I left a stop, tried to shift into 4th and just started grinding... wouldn't go in! pulled over, yanked on the shifter a couple times but it is now stuck in 4th. The shifter will go side to side but will not go into any of the gear slots. It drives fine just won't get out of gear. Can anybody tell me what happened? I am gonna tear into the top shifter area tonight but is this something I'm gonna have to take the whole tranny out or can be fixxed in a side access hole.

Please help me!

Check that big bolt on the side of trand and see if it's loose. Otherwise you'll have to pull the trans. No fixing can be done from the PTO plates :(.

k guys. I've never been in a manual tranny so I don't know exactly what I'm digging myself into but I'm cracking her open....

I was able to get the truck out of 4th by bouncing/pusing the stick up till it was where it should be in fourth then I brought it back to neutral. Whether at a stand still or driving, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and reverse all work fine. Problems start after those gears........ Standing still, it will go into 4th and 6th fine but if i put it into 5th, tranny seems to still be in neutral. Then when I try to bring back out of 5th it goes staight into 4th gear when the stick is in neutral position. I can slide the stick side to side and if I push it into any other gear, the tranny binds, like let out the clutch and there ain't any movement, just "bogs" the motor down. Put it back into 5th and tranny is in neutral. Bounce/push the stuck back up past neutral into the 4th gear spot and we are back at the beginning. Now when rolling, trying to go from 3rd to 4th, the stick goes all the way up to the dash and it grinds a whole bunch, will not go in. 5th is just neutral and 6th gear grinds too but will go in with a little persistence.

If anybody has any clue what the problem could be or have any pointers on getting the tranny opened before I screw something up, please let me know!

Sorry for the long post! :o:

How hard do you shift the thing?

Not too hard! I tried (power shifting?) a time or two but didn't like it too well, I just stick to clutching it. Got the trans cracked open tonight and guess what I found?? :(

Can you guys who know what the synchronizers are suppose to look like take a look at these pictures? The first one is what they all look like but the next two pics are of the 6th gear which would give me troubles with shifting every now and then.. Those are defiantly shot??

I put pictures of my throwout bearing. Anybody know how you take the old one off??

That is a bad byproduct of speed shifting, it is hell on synchros

So your saying all my syncro's are shot or the roll pin fell out because of speed shifting?
