I know alot of you run remote start on your trucks, I was just wondering how that worked with the diesel's, does it automatically wait for the glow plugs to warm up somehow? i know my truck, it only takes about 1 or 2 seconds for the little swirly light to go off, but i always wait for it.
also, how much does it cost to get one of these installed? i'm interested.
thanks for the help.

Some systems are wired up waiting on the glow plug light while others are on timers.

I wired mine up to the W2S light, But you can put a relay timer pack on thier for 30 sec. I havent had any problems the way I did it though. Probably lookin around $600 installed for a descent system, I know my shop always charges extra for diesels.

Do a search on remote starts. There are a few guys on the board that do them for a living. I installed an Astrostart on my gasser(a few less wires than a diesel) and it works great. I bought mine from Max Power.

Holy Censored !! $600?? You can get a good system for $280-$350 installed. Talk about over paying.. unless it includes a full aftermarket alarm.

I installed one of those $50 Valiant systems from jc whitney on my blazer. My boss bought it for his wifes car but never installed it so he gave it to me when he was cleaning out his garage. It has a setting for diesels to allow the glow plugs to cycle and you can up the cranking time to 15sec. When its really cold it won't start every time but if it doesn't start it will shut down and retry 3 times before giving up. I don't remember it being that big of a deal to install but this is no DMax.

If I were you, get it wired to the wait to start light. That's the way I have it done on mine. The place that did it, only does it that way. I have a Clifford autostart, works pretty good. Astrostart are good too, I had that in my last truck. I decided to have mine professionally installed since I had 2 failed attempts on the last 2 trucks. I am pretty good with wires and wiring diagrams, but I never got it to work. (I work on F-16s avionics) I think the passlock module I had was fried. Down in the lower 48 you could probably get the same system I have for about $400 installed. I had to pay $550 up here...no alarm, just a 2 way paging system. Either way you go, if you have someone install it, they should be able to wire it in right. If not, then you should get your money back.

Yea but that Includes the full Clifford 3.5 system, Alarm, remote start, Passlock 2 interface, Shock and Hood pin sensors, as well as the diesel W2S light. The system also has a 2 way pager.

I got the compustar at $325 installed and its got the shock sensors, 2-way paging, remote start. The only thing I dont like is the diesel setting waits 35 seconds before starting. No way to change that either. Takes for ever...
One really cool feature is the "calling" option. You can tap three times on my windshield and my controll unit beeps telling me that some one is trying to get ahold of me... crazy stuff...
