JUST GOT MY HD A FEW MONTHS AGO. LOOKING FOR A GOOD EXHAUST. I HAVE THE 2003 2500 HD WITH THE DURAMAX AND ALLISON. I DID A LITTLE SERCHING AND FOUND THE BANKS EXHAUST SYSTEM. ITS 5 INCH FROM THE TURBO BACK AND THEY SAID IT WILL GIVE ME 75 MORE HP AT THE REAR WHEELS. ALSO TAKES MY TURBO PRESSURSE FROM 19 TO 24 PSI. ANY COMMENTS ON THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM OR RECOMENDATIONS FOR OTHER SYSTEMS. THANKS..

The Banks Corp. only makes a 4" for the Chevy. It has a 5" tip. It is a nice system with good sound. It won't make enough power to really feel. A little more off idle. If you use the extra ump. you will probally loose 1MPG. It is a great building block for a power module.

If you want the baddest exhaust around check out Hog Performance. You will find information at www.hogperformance.com (http://www.hogperformance.com). I have also found them at www.bigexhaust.com (http://www.bigexhaust.com)

Banks as stated is a 4" system. A good one. All the aftermarket 4" straight thru muffler designs will give you about the same pluses listed below and are all close in what they deliver:

1- A little more horse power - nothing like they claim http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

2 - Moves the rpm higher to develop max torque. (takes a little longer to develop maximim torque)

2- less back pressure.

3 - Lower EGT's

4 - Quicker turbo spool.

------------------------------------------------
The few that vary most between manufactures:

1- http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif SOUND.

2- installation fit.

3- Material made out of ( steel, aluminized steel, stainless steel)
(stainless roughly double the cost of steel)

4- Cost

I figure, it's these last 4 that is the big decission maker for the individual buying the system.

I have the Dynomax 4" exhaust:

1- Sound = LOUD

2- Installation fit = Excellent

3- Material - Aluminized steel

4- Cost = Cheap - $350

Also look for a system with band clamps. This way if you get a system and it is too loud or not loud enough you can swap just the mufflers.

Note: If it's more horsepower you're looking for, here's a little known secret. It really the stickers that give you the horsepower, not the product. Just get some aftermarket product stickers and plaster them all over the truck http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif. You'll be up to 1000 HP in no timehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif.

Blackdmax, I like the look of the Hog, what do they run $ wise?

With a turbo you don't necessarily need a big exhaust to make more power, just a less restrictive. I chose to just rpl the muffler with a Dynomax Bullet for $35 and probably have no less power than someone who spends $400 replacing all the piping. I can't see any gain going to a 4in unless you are in the 600hp range. Just my opinion.

Per the link above, the hog system costs more than the bank and doesn't look to be up to the same quality. This is only an opinion based on observation of pictures.

For the high end, high dollar systems there are the Banks, ATS, and Kennedy systems. I've heard very few issues with these three overall. Hands down the ATS Dual system is the ultimate exhaust system in my book.

I'll be honest and say I'll a tad biased when it comes to the low buck systems. I've got the Summit 4" on my truck and I love it. It cost me a whopping $350 to my door. The shining moment of this system was when a guy asked me how come mine sounded so much better than his, he had the banks. It is loud and another guy here wasn't so lucky with it.

Like I've said time and time again, go take a ride in a truck with what you're looking at, that's the best way to check it out...

1badHO,

Check out www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com) We have aluminized, T-409 and T-304 stainless steel systesm and even dual exhaust with twin 5 inch tips. Typical performance gains will be 30 HP and 40 LBs of torque at best. The exhaust system will allow you to add something like an Edge Juice for up to 120 extra HP and keep your EGT's safe. Call us if we can help you.

I had the Bullet put on Monday. The idle is a little louder. Can hear the turbo whine more when going down the road which I like. The repsonsivness has improved greatly as well as the feel of it pulling harder. I have no drone at any speeds. Now when I step on it it sounds more aggressive but not overly loud. Not bad for a total of $50 parts and labor.

Turboost, where did you get your dynomax bullet muffler?

1 Bad HD,

I think you are confusing the exhaust kit with the Stinger Kit. The Stinger kit comes with the 4" exhaust, air filter, Big Head Waste gate, and the Banks Otto Mind. This is rated at 75 Hp & 142 ft lbs. The exhaust itself will maybe get you 8 -10 hp...maybe. I have the stinger kit on my truck. It's good for towing(which I do), but there are probably better solutions if you just want to hot rod....take it away hot rodders.

Do you still have the part # for it turboost.. I was thinking of getting some 3.5 in flex pipe and run it till the muff gets here, has anyone done it with flex pipe yet?

turboost

The part# I got off Jegs is 289-24216. I also plan on running this same muffler with my turbo mustang setup. Just a single 3 or 3.5" pipe and it should support over 500hp.

turboost did you have them weld in some 3 or 3.5 pipe cause the muff is only 12in long, Im having a hard time finding the 3.5in pipe.

turboost

Summit sells the pipe. I got mine from a local truck shop. I imagine just about any place that deals with semis would have about a 1.5 ft of it which is all you'll need.

All,

For all that are interested. The Hog system is made from T-309 stainless. Most other manufacturers use T-409 which is a lower grade stainless. The Hog system is designed perfectly. During the assembly they provide you with band clamps rather than the cheaper style exhaust clamps. The complete system is done in house and nothing is outsourced. You get your choice of 3 different mufflers and either a 6" or 5 1/2 " Polished tip. I would suggest this exhaust kit over any others. Check them out at www.hogperformance.com (http://www.hogperformance.com)

I thought most exhaust systems were made out of 304 stainless steel or 409 stainless steel

Got Juice?

Actually i believe the number for the banks exhaust at 75.... problem is they left out one little important thing....THE DECIMAL POINT!

That and Aluminized cold rolled steel ... 309 is superior to 304 in many ways surprised to hear it's being used in this application do to cost ....

Lets step right up to 348 stainless ....Used in the Nuclear power applications .... This I guess would be the big power makers choice of exhaust ....

On most gassers, engine mods. effect sound regardless of exaust being used. Is this true for the Dmax? I wouldn't know. I am stock and don't get around many modified Dmax's.

Check out bully dog's exhaust, this thing bellows pretty well with a hint of turbo whine in the lower rpms. HP gain is so minimal with any exhaust system your best bet is to just search the internet for .wav files and see which one has the sound to earn your money.
