Would someone explain the differences between a stock LLY and a stock LB7?

Wouldn't you know it, another thread with the EXACT title from a few days ago! Found it all in a matter of seconds, by doing what you ask? That's right, a SEARCH!

Hey SixPack, I'm a fellow newbie to this site and I have learned by observation that you better do a search before asking questions:confused:. There is a wealth of info buried here and it is usually easy to find what you are looking for using the search tool. I hope you find the info that you are looking for.

Thanks for the tip and reply. I think there's probably better forums for the info I'm interested in. Funny how a few young pricks **** things up for everyone.

Thanks again.

I do notice this very response quite often. I would rather see some help applied to the "Do a search" response for the forums sake but you get what you pay for I guess. I just avoid what I can't add to for the most part. Good luck finding your answers.

Edit: I don't get the rudeness guys... Why is it necessary to chew ass instead of just help out?

The majority of people hate repeating themselves which is what is done when a topic like this is dicussed every couple days. There was nothing rude about 05 2500HD's first response. He politely suggested using the search feature that would have found this person his information much quicker than the time it took him to type his original question. Ironically, any other forum he finds will be the same way so I wish him luck.

Exactly.. I'm a mod on a different type of forum.. Completely agree.. it's soo aggrivating to repeat and repeat and repeat.. Especially when it's long and involved.

Why are you obligated to repeat yourself? Are you under contract here to post in every thread? I would think when no one responds that the OP would either move on or find the search button. It just seems to me if your willing to post that you would take the time to link to something for the guy as well as recommending the search button. Just my .02 in hopes of a more friendly forum.

What kind of answer would you expect from someone that wanted to discuss the LB7/LLY differences. Some on this forum only care to discuss things that are important to them and they are easily annoyed by legitimate questions by others.

DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATHE WAITING ON ANY MORE QUESTIONS FROM ME.

AS YOU SAY......... :flipa: yourself !

Allright...
LB7 - Used from 01 to 04 model year trucks.

LLY - 04.5 through 05 to be replaced in 06

Major differences include:
Turbo....The LLY has a variable-vane turbo electronically controled
The LB7 has a conventional IHI turbo (the LLY unit is made by Garett)

Injectors...The LLY has "external" injectors..replacement does not require removing the valve covers...LB7 injectors are serviced by removing the valve covers.

Of course, the heads are somewhat different to accomodate this injector change

Most LB7 motors have no cat. converter or egr (unless it came from california or another highly-restrictive emissions state)

All LLY powered trucks come from the factory with the EGR and Cat. converter.

There are some subtile differences in the fuel delivery between the LB7 and LLY

Now, as far as adding power goes, the LB7 has been around longer and the bugs have been worked out of almost every programmer/tuner/pcm upgrade available for them.

If you're looking for high horsepower out of an LLY, there are fewer options and a few pitfalls to get around (such as the P1093 code)

Welcome to the forum...Contrary to your belief, we aren't all a bunch of bastards around here...

I understand the frustration for the veterans of this site, but I do appreciate the patience of those who actually help. I am still catching on to the whole thing, and when I was brand new it was overwhelming because of so much information. Thanks to those with patience, I have found the answers I have needed, and hopefully will be able to give some answers to those in the same situation in the future.

You have to look at it like this. We are here to help and those of us with the higher post counts and the knowledge will post that where it is needed, but when you utilize the search feature for what it is there for you can find TONS of info and most of the questions that are being posted have been answered and just require a little reading on your part. If something has not been covered then it will be answered in the most specific detail possible. But when we see the same thing posted over and over again you usually get the response to do a search. We don't mind for the most part answering all the questions that are posted and will do so and sometimes link you to previous posts and answers. Just take some time, do some reading, enjoy what is posted already and then if you still have questions at least when you post state that you have done a search and still are looking for answers. If possible post what you have learned from the other posts and what you still need answers to, this will make our job and others more easy in the long run and you will get more of the info that you are looking for and faster. I know that I answer the same posted questions over and over again and really it does not bother me, but others might not feel the same way and then you will get posts such as the ones in here about doing a search. We always welcome new members, that is what keeps this place going. The more members we have the stronger we become and over time we will have a strong member base and a very knowledgeable group here. Just takes time and like I said a lot of reading. Once again as others have stated but in a not so nice way, welcome and happy reading and posting... Good luck

Yep. What GMC2500HD said. Do a search first. Then, if you still don't have an answer, ask your questions. At least then, you'll be a bit more specific in what you're asking. Most anything you can think of has been gone over a few times here.

Even us vets got the "Do a search first" when we started.....don't take it so hard. Personally, I'd rather have my LB7 over an LLY any day....

BTW.....Welcome to the Place!
