Not sure if this is the correct area to post this question, but here goes. We just picked up a 2011 chassis cab (LGH) and is currently being upfitted with a dump body. Does anybody on here have any experience with the Allison PTO? First, the body people are telling us there is a constant noise or whine when they install the hydraulic pump on the Allison transmissions. Also they say they could not get a pto pump for the 2011s for at least a month. At this point it looks like we will get a belt drive pump. Are there pros or cons with a belt drive? Marlin

I have both PTO and electric hoists on my trucks.
The only time a PTO unit whines is when the installer doesn't shim the unit correctly. And most don't properly thread tape the clutch hydraulic connections, leaving every unit here with leaks that had to be addressed.
As for the electric over hydraulic hoist, it was a lot cheaper, a little slower, but just as powerful.
Never saw a belt drive unit:confused:

I have a Muncie Belt driven PTO on my 2009 Roll Off truck. We dont run transmission mounted PTO's because we need to be in gear moving with full pressure, and the ability to run a PTO at low speeds. The only downfall I have with the pump is we repalced it within a year because the bearings wore out.
The pump and bracketry can be purchased from a nearby FleetPride. Our setup ran around $ 1300.00.
If you want a picture of the pump setup send me an email, and I can send you a picture from my phone

I had been reading on a snowplowing forum that trucks running sanders with the pto being a bit loud but a dump body you would never leave it on for that long. But the proper shimming sounds important and never heard that before.

We've been running belt driven hydrolic pumps for 22yrs on our hydrolic bale beds. They are very reliable and belts are the only issue we've had and they are a wear item anyways.
