Hey, I was just wondering if anyone had replaced thier water pump in a 2001 duramax. I can get the pump for $200 but the labor is another $400. I have experiance replacing them but it was a ford 300. What is involved?? IE what do I have to pull out . Any help is apreciated,
:ro)

I have done it, it takes a little while. Ok, remove, TCM, upper shroud, fan, belt, fan pulley, lower shroud (I think), harmonic balancer (pain in the a$$ if you don't have the right tools), and there is a few other things in the way also. Most of it is put together with 0-rings. If you cut or pinch one while you are going together with it, you will be taking it back apart. Seriously, I'd take it to a professional, it would be money well spent if the person you are taking it to knows what they are doing.

Word, Got her done in 5 hours and 38 min. I rented all the tools from pep boys, do not recomend this job in 100 degree weather though.

It's go'n to cost you $400 in beer):h to do it yourself. After you break your arm in three positions:eek: to get the two nuts off on the back side of the pump, you still have to worry about the harmonic balancer bolt and 'snaking' the pump in and out.
After jacking with bolt for a few hours (4' breaker bar on bolt and 4' strap wrench on pully) I broke down and bought a 900 ft.lb. 3/4 drive impact. Done in 2 seconds:ro)
Then you get to snake out the pump and snake it back in without damaging any seals:help2:
Then your home free... Have fun:lol:
