: Performance woes
Max Power 08-04-2005, 07:26 PM I received my Van Aaken box today that I bought used off a member. I stacked it with my PPE and headed out for some truck punishment. It feels about the same as the PPE alone only with more smoke. I'll have to do some more testing but so far I am not impressed.
I think my truck is weaker then the rest. I'm going to get to a dyno soon because it is really hard for me to get to the track. I guess it's time for a lift pump. Hopefully that will help some but I am not a believer.
So far I have tryed various stacks of the following PPE xcellerator, PPE Enforcer, Van Aaken, Edge Juice/Attitude, Bully Dog Power pup, Bully dog dyno dominator, Predator. Anyone want to buy a few tuners?
I am actually throwing around the idea of selling my truck and buying an early model 04 and getting a TTS extreme. Too bad I love my truck so much and i don't think I could buy someone elses used/abused truck.
My old 03 with nothing more then the hot juice/attitude would kick the crap out of this truck.
Maybe I am expecting too much, I don't know.
Somebody please :help2:
/End Rant
McRat 08-04-2005, 07:33 PM You should be able to dyno about 460-470 with that stack. Nearly LB7 Extreme HP.
Put a lift pump on yet?
I hear what your saying. Every time I look outside, I think of what I could have done with an 02 instead of this LLY. I'd be running low 13 second 1/4's on just fuel right now. I have the money saved for a trans., but what good is it going to do? A guy I met on these boards is doing the trans. in his LLY this weekend. He has a Predator. I will see how much of a difference it makes. I am not wasting my money on a tune that will make my truck 1093 all the time. I want a tune that works and is fast. It is hard to wait!!!! I feel your pain. Thanks for all the testing you have done with all the programmers. It saved me a ton of money! Maybe you shold throw a ton of NOS in it. That should wake it up. What type of lift pump do you want?
Max Power 08-04-2005, 07:53 PM No lift pump yet. I can't imagine it making that much difference. It smokes black like CRAZY. That will be my next project I guess. Just trying to figure out which way to go. I don't really want to drop another $500 but it seems like the best way to go.
Max Power 08-04-2005, 07:55 PM I also REALLY need to do the 1093 shim. I wish I could find that damn nut.
Max Power 08-04-2005, 08:03 PM I went for another rip. I think this is probably the stongest stack so far. I will do some 1/4 mile runs on the attitude so I have something to compare it to.
I don't know about 460-470hp but maybe that is because I don't have a lift pump.
McRat 08-04-2005, 08:10 PM You'll need a pump to take full advantage. Get the $80 Carter from Summit Racing or Jegs.
Yes, we have not caught up to the LB7. Be patient. It's coming. And not in a soup can.
GMC-2002-Dmax 08-04-2005, 08:13 PM You LLY guys have to be patient.........
The stuff is coming........just not as quickly as you might want it too.
seems to me that a few trucks can get into the low 13's with the proper set-up..........
Keep your heads high and the time will come .............
I'll be keeping my LB7 till the wheels fall off..............

You make it sound so easy. I don't think Jeg's or Summit will ship to Canada so I will have to find another source. It's not easy being me. ):h

McRat 08-04-2005, 08:22 PM Nevermind
Max Power 08-04-2005, 08:23 PM Thanks. Since I am 100+ miles from a big center I need to have all my ducks in a row once I start cutting into it. Can you tell me what I need as far as fittings and hose etc? I would also like some kind of bypass but I guess I can add that in after.
Max Power 08-04-2005, 08:23 PM Nevermind x2.

And when it dies and strands you on the side of the road, you had better have tools along to bypass it. Eric lost his Christmas Eve day IIRC... That and all the noise...
Max Power 08-05-2005, 10:08 AM Kennedy, I know I just want something cheap to get me on my feet. I have spent a lot of money on boxes lately and seen very little improvement. Once I have proven to myself that it works as I feel it should I will most likely purchase your lift pump setup or perhaps TTS's as I believe these are the two best on the market.
Sell a couple programmers and get the TTS or Kennedys. They are the best on the market and you know it will help because McRat said it will. I'd do it right the first time and not mess w/ anything else. You do like to tinker w/ your truck though. Ahh...what the heck. Make your own. It will be fun.
LBZ DMAX 08-05-2005, 10:24 AM Run the dual FM100's and get the extra filtration as a bonus. I helped cid` install his and it was a nice setup when it was all said and done.

That is something I was considering as well. The biggest thing for me it is very difficult to find all those fittings and stuff. I wish I had access to more of that stuff but I live in a small town that is 100 miles from a major center. I just need to get off my a$$ I guess. :(

Get a hold of cid and he'll point you in the right direction. It uses a lot of fittings, but well worth it in the end.
IdahoRob 08-05-2005, 10:51 AM Max, I'm running the carter. I took off the soft hose between the pick-up and frame just above the cooler. No cutting required. You need two tee's and two shut off valves. Run a line with a valve to the two tee's, and then run a line to a valve to the pump and out to the tee. I run the carter only at the track. Just open and close the valves and turn off/on the switch. Never get stranded.
I also wanted to test a pump before I dropped another $500.00.
I ran .4 faster in the 1/4mile with the VA stack over just the PPE, but I have more air.
I bought my LLY in july of '04. There were still Lb7's available. I feel your pain. I'm worried about the tranny lay down problems most.
Lets keep our hopes up:ro)
Rob
Max Power 08-05-2005, 11:08 AM The lay down thing I think someone will figure out with time. I wish I knew where to begin with it....
McRat 08-05-2005, 12:27 PM And when it dies and strands you on the side of the road, you had better have tools along to bypass it. Eric lost his Christmas Eve day IIRC... That and all the noise...
Correct. The Carter is the "cheap" solution. It's noisy, it is not free-flow, but it's about the cheapest.
There certainly are better solutions out there.
NODMAX 08-05-2005, 04:32 PM I noticed a difference right away after the liftpump was installed. I'm using the Carter too, but with a bypass. Strangely enough, mine only throws 1093's with the LP off.
