Find someone with EFI-Live and then if you want to tune your truck you have already payed for the lic.

EFILive hasn't cracked the code for this new LML ECM yet, nor has anybody so far.

HPTuners hasn't either.

So, in short.. You're stuck with the 96 until someone releases a Programmer/Tuner.

Why did they limit the speed to 96 MPH, even my Prius can hit 105? What was the logic, anybody know?

Most likely, it was the tire choice...

Not trying to be a smartass, but what is the logic in needing to go 96 MPH. I cannot speak for all states, but around here, the highest posted speed limit is 75 MPH, so for all practical purposes they could limit top speed to 80 MPH on all vehicles.

It wasn't the speed that was scary, it was the stopping that made me piss my pants.......all in fun.

105 would be a better limiter than 96. I live in the country and I see 105 on a regular basis. I'm with you I cant stand the 96 mph thing!

 Are talking about weather temperature or miles per hour?

The speed limiter is due the tire speed rating. Go faster and you risk the tire coming apart if that matters to you.

I have the 20" wheel and tire package and the tires are Goodyear with an "S" speed rating which is 112 MPH. I still can't believe my Prius can out run my Denali.......oh well, it isn't like I drive that fast anyway, certainly not towing, trailer tires usually are speed rated at 60 or 65 MPH.

ya, speed limit is 80 here on the interstate, so 96 is not enough for my taste. I dont drive my truck a day w/o hitting the 96 limiter... I have good tires on it so Im not worried at all about the tires. And really dont want to buy a tuner just for the limiter... and that will give the stealership a reason to void my warranty.... I can hear them now... "the higher speed caused the front seat motor to break"... lol

Since I am a virtual slow poke, what happens when you hit the magic 96 MPH, is it a rev limiter where the motor just shuts down or does it just hold you at speed?

its a soft limiter. just holds you there.

That is better than a rev limiter where the power just stops and so does the trucks forward motion......thanks for the clarification.

I thought that there was a law that required the manufacturers to give the computer information out for the aftermarket industry - kind of an anti-monopoly / fair business practice deal.

Why go more than 96?
Scenario - driving a 65 two lane going 65-70ish, you want faster, guy in front is not paying attention, speed/driving inconsistent.
You pull out to pass, he decides to go faster, you hit 96 pretty quick and the extra 5-15mph come in handy.

WHEN they crack the ECM and IF all you want is the speed limiter removed and keep your warranty. Buy a second ecm and have it programed with your changes. When you take it in for service, the ecm is a quick swap. I would change it anytime you have the vehicle out of sight at the dealer. My dealer told me they are regularly hooking up to the ECM even for basic service.
If you bump HP, I assume you could also swap a second TCM so your stock remains unchanged.
Keep your originals perfectly stock as they can tell which was originally installed.

If you are making the speed change, also have them reduce the tire pressure warning to 35ish and recalibrate your tires if necessary.
Its an expensive $600 but may be worth it to you.

You guys are so funny, the Prius is actually a great vehicle, as far as the accelerating problem, I just carry a 100 lb anchor and throw it out when things go bad. Only problem is that friggin chain chews up the side of the car.

nothing personal, but
The prius... Great.... vehicle??
:rof1:

I have to respectfully disagree, I just can't fathom that! Their mileage on the highway isn't far off from a diesel truck, and my 99 vette with 551rwhp still averages 29 on the highway (it was around 32 until I changed the gear ratio). If you live in manhattan, I agree they're great, (though a golf cart would be better), outside of a dedicated big city environment, they do more damage than good imho!! As far as the throttle on the prius sticking, just open the door, and drag your feet, it'll stop in no time

I tried to deflect the negative comments with more humor, I guess that not everybody has the same sense of humor. BTW, there is no way any truck gets anything near 48 MPG, but heck 32 on your vette is awesome. Nice ride!

I should at least get credit for owning a GMC.

No worries.

It would be funny if it were not the experience of VW owners.

This is a DURAMAX TRUCK fourm but since Chevy / GMC is included in the graph, I will indulge.

Historically, VW has been among the WORST in dependability. According to JD Power 2010 rankings, not much has changed.
Most have improved in overall numbers but VW is still scraping the bottom.

JOOC, how fast will a stock LML go with no limiter?

With a stock rev limiter?

I think it has been covered here somewhere......but you can figure it out mathematically fairly easily. 3500-3600rpm, 0.61(or 0.62...can't remeber) ratio in 6th gear, 3.73 gear ratio in the rear, and whatever tire size you have.

Edit: Here try this......

Here's the results for my truck(stock tires)

Interesting that GMC ranks so much higher than Chevy. I assume that this is due to Chevy's stats including all vehicle models which may be more problematic than just their truck line?

I'm guessing, but I think the JD survey goes by all of the Chevy model owners and GMC model owners and so on for the other other manufacturers.
So if a certain brand has 10 different body styles or vehicles, like SUV's and passenger cars and pickup trucks, it stands to reason that they may have more problems in Owner satisfaction survey's.
One body style of vehicle may have a bunch of issues and that would impact the rating for all of that manufacturer.
Chevy probably has more different types and styles of vehicles than GMC does. GMC line is primarily trucks and SUV's. Maybe that is why they rate better than Chevy?
Someone on the forum said that the GMC and Chevy 2500 and 3500 trucks run down the same assembly line. So I'm guessing again that if it were just a survey relating to those two models, it would probably rank about the same?
