I had a o4 LB7 and when I would change oil it would look clean for a couple thousand miles. I now have a 05 lly and when I change oil it starts looking black in a couple hunderd miles. Is this normal ?

Yes it's normal. Probably due to the egr that your LB7 didn't have. With the additive package that today's premium oils have, you don't need to worry.
