: LML Temp
Two questions actually..one is does everyones temp stay at 210F? My 03 unloaded on a cold day wouldnt get above 180F, and my 06 will run cool, easy driving in traffic, but 11 stays at 210F. Also I ordered the assist steps(6" oval) and was wondering if anyone had torque specs for body mounts. With the fluid filled rear body mount I would think it is important. Thanks for any input. Dan
johnluke 11-17-2010, 06:27 PM I was debating on whether or not to start a thread about the temp. It's always at 210. On colder mornings (30-40) after 5 mins. of driving it is there already. My 06 took prob 15-20 min. to get there. not sure about the torq. specs
Appreciate the response bud, It is different to see that. My 06 is the same as yours but this thing heats up like a gasser. I suppose it is a "refinement" not to have to wait for a warm cab.
UKNOWME8 11-17-2010, 06:43 PM it is part of the tuning for the truck it makes it burn the fuel cleaner.
cdn111 11-17-2010, 06:56 PM if you got gm 6" ovals you wont be taking any body mounts loose.

do what?
I figured it was emissions related, similar to the gassers when they went emissions crazy. Didnt see anyone else post and wondered if mine was "funny". The steps are sittin at the parts dept., came in today. Dont want to wait another two weeks to get em put on by the dealer, so they dont bolt to the body mounts?
Biodiesel66 11-17-2010, 07:36 PM Has nothing to do with Tuning. It's the Gage!
Did some data BBL with EFILive. The temp on the dash always a tad over 210.
The data from the log show AAT of 68F and ECT 192F. a tad off from the 210 on the dash.

I'm guessing it's very similar to the "dummy gauges" Chevy does with most of their cars these days too. For example, in my '99 Z/28 the gauge would always say 210ish (after initial warmup) while logging could show about a 40 degree variance (from ~180-220 IIRC). My friend's '98 (first year for the LS1s) was actually very accurate. Talking to some GM techs I guess it turns out that GM got tired of stupid consumers bringing their cars in because they thought they had an issue since the temp gauge moved around. I guess people are just used to not having a temp gauge, or having the "C to H" style that just sit in one spot so they freak out if the gauge moves.
GM "fixed" the problem by dumbing down the gauges and just having them show 210 across a wide range of normal temps. As usual the enthusiast loses. :(

concours12000 11-17-2010, 08:11 PM I do believe that the turbo vanes close down to great back pressure.
The same system as the exaust brake.
This help to warm up the engine and help with emmisions requirements.

That's true!
Dont care to much to here that.(guage) To me a difference in any of the guages could be an early warning of things to come. Had on 02 f450 Work truck that an injector hung open and ultimately melted a piston......no indication in high temp, not until it poured gray smoke and ran like chit. There guages dont move until massive deviation is present. What i would call dummy guage.
Turbo vanes closing,....so kind of "simulated" load

Nope, GM oval steps only bolt to the body itself.
TrevorD 11-17-2010, 11:58 PM It's a dummy gauge of sorts. My '08 was the same way. The needle wouldn't move off of 210 until the coolant temp got to 220+. Just like my 2011, my '08 would normally run in the 186-192 temp range, and the needle would stay on 210. As mentioned, the'98 cars were very accurate. I had a 98 Trans Am that had a needle that was pretty accurate, but they changed them all in '99.
saratoga 11-18-2010, 09:03 AM It's the somewhere-in-the-ballpark gauge. My 06 wasn't any better.
160 was the low marking, yet when the needle was on the 180 mark it was actually at 160 (according to the scangauge).
During the summer in FL, the gauge stayed at or just below 210 all the time once warmed up but ran anywhere between 186 and 195.

I see we agree! ;)

Hacksaw 11-18-2010, 12:54 PM I would also like to know the torque specs for body mounts as mentioned in the original post. Anyone know?
salmandmx 11-18-2010, 02:04 PM Mine constantly stays a notch below 210. However if u read several posts in the LMM and LBZ section, GM has always made the temp guage off by 15-20 degrees. So your truck is running cooler than what the temp guage says.
johndeerrm 11-18-2010, 09:35 PM Dodge did the same thing for emissions, they started using a 200 degree t-stat in 2010. It also seems the increased volumne of EGR gasses makes the motor warm up really quick. Once I disabled the EGR on my 2010 ram it started taking forever to warm up like my 2007 LBZ.
