How do you guys utilize the info. you get from a boost gage?
Also, what is the danger zone on the pyro gage?

Thanks

As far as the boost gauge, I just want to make sure I'm not going over 35 psi, other than that it's fun to watch! And the pyro, I don't think most gauges have a danger zone when used in a d-max.):h How many guys do you know that have melted down there motor due to high egt's:confused:
I am alway 1800+ deg while racing.

I'm not an expert, but I have read elsewhere that the boost gauge helps you identify potential problems before they become huge problems. Plus its fun to watch. I had a complete set in my prior Dodge, and really only valued the Pyro and Trans temp gauge. When I get a box for the D/A, I'll likely only add a pyro and save a few bucks.

Is the wastegate the only thing you adjust to get the 35lbs. of boost? And do you keep the max at 35lbs. when towing/on the street. What would you recommend setting it to for everyday driving.
The reason why I ask is because I am about to purchase a TTS Extreme/big head wastegate

How hard the truck is fueled determines how much boost you will swing along with the setting on the WG if you buy a banks. Most run 30 PSI or so on a truck with just the Xtreme, exhaust and intake. I run 31ish pre intercooler with the only "mod" to my stock WG being the line moved to post intercooler as apposed to the stock pre intercooler location. For long term happy turbo life at a moderate elevation 31ish is about as high as I'd want to go. High boost is kinda like a trans, some peoples turbo live at that level and some die quickly. 31 ish is considered pretty safe. Much over that and its considered playing with fire IMO, you may or may not get burned

You really dont need a boost gauge unless you are monkeing with the WG in most instances although it can show you some probs. A Pyro is a big deal though if you are towing with added power. You can see if your truck is getting worked hard and take corrective actions to keep from running high EGT's for a prolonged period of time. I see my pyro pegged at 1600* but that is for very short bursts, you dont want to do that for a long time or you will cook stuff.

So is there a need for a Banks WG with the TTS?

Not really needed......you could probably pick up a few HP and have the ability to adjust your boost were you wanted it......supposedly picks up throttle response too??? I duno. I didnt think it was worth the price but I picked one up used so its going on and we shall see. Worth the $$$ per what you get

I run hard without it;)

For me... it can wait then. :)

See I almost got side tracked again on my tranny fund.

Boost gauge is mostly cosmetic with a manual wastegate on my LB7. I used it more in my 99 6.5TD Tahoe, because there was a boost control valve and I could search for a "sweet spot" in the rpm range on the interstate. Sometimes just going up or down a few hundred rpms would show a drop in boost that told me that the engine was making more horsepower at better economy (even towing). A lot of people with LB7s have tinkered with the wastegate linkage and pressure hose/diaphragm looking for higher boost numbers, but if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't get you much because the ECM is still reading the air flow from the MAF upstream of the turbo and only fueling to that, so you don't get much extra fuel to go with the extra boost. Pyro, on the other hand is a critical device if you are adding any extra fueling with any power adder. Especially towing/climbing, even with a light load. Those EGTs will really shoot up fast and it's good to have an immediate visual indication of when to roll off the throttle to keep them in check.

hmm, good information. 200$ big head wastegate = 1lb of boost... I think I will stick w/ what I am about to get unless I find it does spool up faster. I would rather not "play w/ fire."
