My '05 has developed a very random intermitent vibration type sound during some shifts. It is very hard to duplicate and happens so rarely (twice a week) that I hesitate to take it to the dealer without being able to give some direction to them.
19K miles on the truck, noise first appeared about 300 miles into a 500 mile trip pulling a 2500# load. Under light to medium acceleration I get a vibration type sound and feeling through the floor boards at the 25mph and sometimes 50mph shift. Happens with T/H on or off and A/C on or off. As I said, doesn't happen often. Does it more often when towing though.
Any ideas what it could be. I already checked the trans fluid and looked for any heatshields etc.. that may vibrate.
Thanks for any suggestions

Sounds like the torque converter locking up. Lock up occurs at about 50 MPH in normal mode and 25 MPH in Tow/Haul. Usually there's a buzzing noise but sometimes you can feel a vibration too. It's most noticeable at low or medium throttle. It's annoying but it's one of the natures of the beast. Some are worse then others but it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the reply, but I know the sound of the TQ converter and this is definetly a foriegn sound / vibration that does not belong......

Did some searching for possible ideas - as the sound is getting worse and more frequent. Will be checking to make sure my step-bars are tight next.

I assume you must have at least a 4 " exhaust based on your sig. Mine was making a vibration which I traced to my MBRP exhaust pipe hitting a shield on a sheetmetal panel under my extended cab or bed (cannot remember). It was not quite touching when I was under there. I simply bent the sheild up by hand a bit and problem went away. It was especially noticeable when the truck was cold.

Back mounting bolts of my nerf bars were snug but not tight. Gave them a few turns but don't know if it was the cure.
Also found that when I wiggle the front U-joint of the main drive shaft (where the shaft goes into the transfer case) that there is "play" to the point where there is quite a bit of noise inside the transfer case when I push up/down and side to side on the spline (in park, engine off).
Is this normal? Could someone else compare on theirs ??
Thanks!

Compared i against the wife's 2001 Yukon and it has the same "play" but not as extensive.

Went to a dealers lot today and compared my "shaft play" with other new trucks . Other trucks do not have it! My truck will be dealer bound soon.
