: Who uses HP Tuners on Duramax's often?

I plan to buy it very soon, although everyone is telling me to go with EFI Live. I would like some very sound advice with reasons. I plan to also use this on my LS1 and LS7 engines for tuning FYI. The Duramax is ONLY going to see a DPF delete and EGR delete. As long as HP Tuners can do that and do it well I will pick up HP Tuners over EFI Live. If anyone can give me good reasons to go with something else please let me know. I have a Banks Six-Gun on my Duramax (LMM) so I will not use EFI Live or HP Tuners tuner for anything other than my DPF Delete and EGR Delete.
If I go with one over the other will I get much support here?

I have an lbz so I can not talk on the dpf delete, but you can disable the egr really easy with hp tunters. I am sure it is that easy also. I really like hptuners.

You'll likely get more diesel help here for EFI however our user help forum www.hptuners.com/forum is alot more active than their forum. If you are just doing simple stuff like dpf/egr delete its pretty straight forward though.

Is there any simple tuning for the trans? I would like to shorten up and firm up my shifts. Is it something anyone has done, or is it a leave it alone situation?

Did you do a search on Hptuners website? There are tunes loaded out there..

I did the tune yesterday, it went super easy. If anyone wants the emissions delete file I made for their LMM just PM me. Intake Heater Delete, EGR Delete, Cat Delete, DPF Delete. So nice to have my remote start back again :)

Next I plan to adjust the fuel gauge to show empty when there is about 2 gallons left in the tank rather than 6 gallons left. Have you messed with that at all? I can't seem to get to the HP Tuners web site all day today.

Yeah, saw that in there. I am at deer camp this week and I do not have the truck/tuner here. If do have questions here, that bill that posted above is the gru for hptuners.

I was able to get it a little better on empty. I just hit smooth about 3 times and now the gauge works wayy better overall, but I still was only able to get 21.5 gallons in on empty. I think I may tweek it a little more. I would idealy like to have about 3 gallons in the tank on E. Right now the sweep is a ton more accurate overall though.

Well it sounds like you are figuring it out. Thanks great... It is really easy to use..

Just watch, you will be adding fuel and timing in the very near future. too hard to resist! The only transmission tables you should mess with are the shifting points and converter lockup. You can also modify the torque management settings but then you run the risk of damaging the trans with too much torque. the only way to get it to shift more firmly is with a Transgo Jr shift kit or other internal mods. DONT mess with the line pressure tables, etc.
send me an e-mail to johns02r6[at]yahoo.com and I will send you a nice LBZ tune I put together. LMM is fairly similar to LBZ tune. Just compare my tune to a stock tune and that should give you a good idea of where to go with your tune.
Hint: DONT load someone elses tune straight into your PCM. if you want to use somebody elses tune, you need to copy their parameters into YOUR tune file. Hope that helps!

Dont mess with these "clutch pressure" tables. Line pressure is not the correct wording

Yeah thats for the adaptive learning/TAV cells. That has nothing to do with "line pressure" like you are thinking.

For the 100 bazillionth time. LINE PRESSURE is NOT electronically controlled in the allison. You want more "LINE PRESSURE", you take it apart and shim the main pressure regulator.

I'm pretty sure none of that is there on my truck. I have to use the Beta version to tune my LMM.

Yeah you pretty much have to have the beta version of HPT. The last official release was in 2008. Tons of updates since then.

Dura -- Seriously take a chill pill or something. I read your posts and you are constantly jumping down peoples throats and stomping around like a troll. 18,700 posts?

More a general question on HPT but why the need to run beta version to tune diesel, shouldn't there be a better update process?

I do agree that their method for releasing updates is strange, but Im sure they do it that way for a reason. Probably because updates are not always 100% functional and they want to keep distribution to a minimum on software that isn't 100% ready.

There are many different beta versions that have been rolled out since 2008. Every time HPT makes updates, they distribute them as the "latest beta". Not sure why they haven't drawn a line in the sand for an official release in so long. But version 2.24 (the next official release) is still pending indefinately last time I looked. So basically if you want updates, you just have to e-mail support and ask for the latest beta. They make frequent updates to the beta version too.

The beta version Im using right now is about a month old, and it works MUCH better for LBZ tuning that the previous version I was using from six months ago.

Hope this helps!

to answer your questions bluntly is we outgrew our release process. We are going to a new release format once 2.24 is released to ease these growing pains.
