I have the Cognito Leveling Kit with dual shocks, stock rims and 285 tires. The drivers side tire is rubbing on the back of the UCA when I turn the wheel full left. I figure if I put 16x8 wheels with 3 5/8 or 4 inch back spacing it should take care of it. I would like to keep the 285's but get a 8 inch wide rim. The tire wouldn't bow out as much and with less backspace it should not rub. I have tried the 1/4 inch spacer but it still touches the UCA. Am I thinking correctly? Any other suggestions? Thanks!!!

Your tires are very bulgy on the small stock wheel. Wider wheels like 16 x 8 should help a lot IMHO, but only testing will help. If you install a spacer the backspacing increases and so does the problem...

I would go with at least a 4" backspace. I went from 3 5/8 to a 4 inch and the fit was much better and a lot less rubbing.

I agree that is why I want to go to an 16x8. Not sure how the spacer increases backspacing......maybe I don't understand backspacing. I thought that it was the distance from the mounting pad to the rim. So, a 1/4" spacer will effectively reduce the backspacing to 4.25 on a stock rim. Is this correct?

Sorry, I was dreaming...of course you are right, backspacing will decrease with a spacer not increase!
16x8 with 4.5" backspace would work perfect

I ended up going with 3 5/8 backspacing. Definitely clears the back of the UCA now. Had to do some trimming on the front valance. The 285's look a lot better on the 16x8's.
