I'm some what a newbie to diesels. This is my first truck and I bought it with 1800 miles on it. Its a 2007 2wd 2500HD Long Bed and it is 100% Stock. Its my Daily Driver and I have 77k miles on it. I mostly drive the truck unloaded and don't tow much of anything. It is mostly used for my business and to pick up 1000 lbs loads 1-2 twice a week.

My problem, its been to the dealer twice under warranty to replace the injectors. Because the exhaust produce a very very very rich, strong smell. I loose power, acceleration, and MPG. 1st time they changed the #7 injector problem went away for about a week.

2nd time the dealer, replaced all 8 injectors, 'cleaned out' EGR Valve & Innercooler for the turbo. Claimed to do some tuning. All the balance rates were completely off. Problem came back about a week later. It doesn't throw any codes. I don't know if this is normal. I believe something is causing the injectors to go bad, it just seems obvious but I am clueless as to what could cause it to go bad.

I am gonna send it back to repair under warranty but I don't think the dealer is really gonna fix the issue. Any help or assistance would be nice.

*I change the oil regularly every 5k miles. and the fuel filter every 10k miles.

First of all you might wanna try a different dealer. When they changed the injectors did they flush out the high pressure lines? I've heard of the rare event where the CP3 starts to fail and will put metal fragments into the fuel before it gets to the injectors. Just shot in the dark. What codes is it giving?

The dealer didn't mention that they flushed the lines. I asked it was throwing any codes and they stated that it wasn't. They stated that the injector balance rates were high but still running within operating range. They replaced anyways to try to fix the problem.

Educate me. Whats the CP3.

CP3 is the injection pump, it sits in the valley and is gear driven. It is the only fuel pump on the system it draws fuel from the tank to the engine and pumps it into the fuel rails. Its rare but I've heard of issues where they start to die and start pumping metal into the fuel. You would probably have rail pressure codes if that happened though

You need to find a better dealer. The one you are using sound like they are throwing parts at it (expensive ones). Your problem could be a lack of boost and have nothing to do with the injectors.

It just makes it difficult that the dealer told you no codes. You said the balance rates were all off but no codes. Could be fuel pressure regulator (FPR), cracked or leaking intercooler boot or something electrical-speaking of that how are your batteries? Low volts can make these trucks do really weird things sometimes

Look at the bright side you got brand new injectors for free..

Update:
I did a regular service to the truck. Changed Oil. New Fuel Filter and & Air cleaner. I was hoping it would fix it or show a sign of improvement. Checked the volts at idle it is a steady 14v ditto.

Took it to the dealer.
This is the problem. EGR Valve; Replacement, EGR Cooler Replacement, Turbo Cooler Replacement, New Turbo because it broke and oil was leaking into everything. New MAF. At this moment they are still working on it tuning getting the new MAF not to throw a code. ????

I must say that this is the 3rd time I have gone in for EGR work. I remember within the 1st 15k miles the EGR valve blew apart and need a replacement. EGR seems to be the culprit for all the breakdowns on this truck. What can I do? Being here in CA to make this truck run smoothly?

3 strikes - have you looked at the lemon law? Also I have heard of ceramic parts inside of the CP3 breaking down and damaging injectors. The real problem is that the system is a closed loop, so if there is anything that should not be in the fuel system it will be circulated around the entire system again and again. If the filter does not catch it, the FOD will be everywhere.

If they do not fully clean and/or replace the fuel system, you can expect injector problems indefinitely. Its a roll of the dice that they are willing to take at your expense.

All of my injectors have been replaced 1 or 2 at a time (sometimes twice).
Keep in mind my injector pump suffered a "catastrophic failure" but just be aware of the potential long term problems and let them know that you know what they are.

I understand that Sh1z happens but I stepped in this at 5800 miles and cannot get the smell off my shoes still.

Unfortunately I did not know this when the IP failed and their roll of the dice has not payed off and I have no more Patience for this.

I am expecting a call from GM tomorrow afternoon.
My truck is still waiting for an injector.

Sorry for the rant, I hope your issue is not this bad.
