4um is the commonly accepted rating for most credible brands.

The "stock housing" is a spin-on canister, and you don't change the media inside the can. You simply buy and install a new one.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum that might help you understand um ratings, etc. It's geared towards oil filters, but the same concepts apply.

The stock filter is 4 micron. They had an older version that was 2 micron, but have since gone back to a 4 micron. I am talking about the Racor/AC Delco filter, I cant speak for the other off-brands available.

have used the stock filters since day one but would change in a heart beat to one that has the top oring contained or embeded into the filter canister. ??? What a pita ensuring it stays in place on the install. POS!
