Sasquatch,

The 48RE was designed for the 325/600 motor. I 'heard' it was rated at 650ft. lbs. compared to the 500 ft. lbs. of the 47RE.

I'm not a mechanic but did get a chance to 'look' at the components of both transmissions. The 48RE looks beefier to me, a lot beefier.

Hearing only positive feedback on the transmission. I'm sure many have "bombed" their engines so it must be holding up so far. Do not know how it compares with the Allison but my Allison seemed to fail at the end of my ownership. All things mechanic can go kaput.

Good luck with your upcoming ordered D/A. Edited by: captainmal

From discusions on other sites I have seen most mad bombers are in agreement that any more than 350/635 the 48re needs help. Valve body, new TC etc. Stock (305/555 -325/600) it will do fine. I would question it though if towing at max GCVWR. Edited by: MABurns
