Ok my 1996 2500 leaks oil from front and rear seal, cooling lines(bad),valve covers, turbo(some),and the oilpan(some). I add about 4 qts. every 3-4K
miles. I want to seal it so I can go to Amsoil, and there dual filters.

I figure the best way to replace the seals/gaskets is to pull the engine.
Well with 180K+ miles (WHILE IT IS OUT) would it cost much to freshen it up with rings bearings, and such. Or should I wait till it quits all together, and rebuild complete. My ? is what is the cost difference of rering vs rebuild?

Of course $$ is tight, so which ever I do, it will be down for a while.
But I have my old `83 to use till it is done.

Anyone "been here done that" before?

i would do a compression test b4 you take it out this will give you a pretty good idea of the condition of your rings if compression is good around 400 psi per cyl then i would not bother with rings they are not cheap im in canada and the cheapest set of rings i have found are around $400 i would pull the motor put it on a stand turn it over take the pan off b4 you buy anything check the mains for cracks if no cracks then you can take off the brg caps and check the condition of your bearings and make the decision based on the condition if they look worn change them . then you can go about sealing up the leaks i would probably put new head gaskets on while it is out

Thanks for the reply. I did some trouble shooting on my turbo waste gate, and it is no
working. No vaccume from pump, but actuator works when manual vaccume is applied,
but turbo does not.
This is my power loss that I was a worn engine.

Leaking oil cooler lines has been a known problem. For more information go here (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?p=430173&posted=1#post430173). You may want to check your CDR operation here (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11637). Also, a quicker check for you would be open your oil fill and see if you have bunch of air coming out. If so, that indicates a lot of blowby - so much blowby that it is more than the CDR can take.

Read up, and see what you think before jerking out the engine.
