I've had my D/A in twice for spongy brake and all the dealer will do is bleed the brakes again. The brakes have never had a solid feel when braking hard. Had a car pull out in front of me the other day on the highway..hit the brakes H-A-R-D and pedel went nearly to the floor -:t (lots of pedel travel-which I don't like) and it felt like it wasn't goin to stop. It just never gets to that soild feel on the brake pedel. I suspect a hydroboost problem, but GM apparently doesn't share my views.
anyone got any ideas :help: RON

I think I have the same problem. The dealer says nothing is wrong but my 03 yukon xl's brakes are tremendous.

kinda out from left field, but there is a lot of weight/inertia involved when one gets behind the wheel...

One thing to keep in mind is you are driving a D/A CC 4x4 which is a heavy truck - and that 60gal fuel tank in the bed adds about another 450# or so. A big heavy truck is just not going to stop like a sedan - or even a lighter truck.
I think spongy / long pedal travel brakes is just a part of owning a GM truck. Everyone I have ever driven has long pedal travel.

I have the same problem with my truck. My dads 2003 9500 pound, brakes nice and has very solid brakes. My truck brakes feels loose. have more pedal travel then my dads and takes more pedal pressure to stop the truck! whats up with my brakes?
UPDATE
Took my truck in for the 3rd time, discussed with the dealers owner, he in turn discussed with area rep and they agreed to:
replace the master cylinder
replace pads on all four wheel
turn all rotors, in other words a complete brake job to my surprise....and whalla, I've got brakes.
I felt all along that the problem was in the hydro-boost area. They feel the way brakes should feel. I don't believe new pads had anything to do with the spongy feel, but who's gonna argue obout a complete brake job for free.
Hope this helps anyone with similar brake problems.

Would the threads describing rusted rear rotors have anything to do with this problem? In my experience, if the rear caliper isn't pushing the pads hard enough to clean the rotor, you might get a spongy pedal....
Just got my 04 back from the dealer, they replaced the hoses from the P/S pump to the hydroboost...still have the spongy feeling...my son's 2003 has great brakes, gonna call GM now...this is the second dealer that won't talk about the hydroboost problem..

:blahblah: Im going back , again soon keep pecking at them and get a service record that you had a complaint !! After three times call the GM rep and ***** , usually it will get some action, if not keep climbing the ladder. ( I know I will)

May sound crazy but have they tried flushing the brake fluid? Contaminates are held in suspension by the fluid and may hold seals open just a bit
Well, now that I contacted GM and the dealer's service manager called me up and said that they would order a new Master Cylinder and give that a try...he said that they changed one on an Avalanche and they liked the brake pedal after that....just waiting for the call to take it in the shop....Will let you all know what happens then.
OK, got the truck back today...rotors were shot....they put new rotors on and also new brakes all around, master cylnder was fine. It only took one phone call to GM to have the dealer call me and get this straightened out. Brakes are now brand new...pedal feels like it should....bug the dealer...had only 26000 miles on the truck...good luck with your problems
