: Put it in drive and my DA stalled!
LA DMAX 07-31-2005, 11:13 PM I have a 2002 DA 45,000 miles and have had no problems with it until yesterday. I was running errands, AC on, came home and let it sit for about an hour. Got back in to do some more errands, started it up, turned on the AC, it was hot out here, backed up out of the driveway and then put it in drive and as soon as I started to accelerate it died. I stopped, put it in park, started it up again, tried to rev it up a little, still in park, but as soon as the rpms started to go up, it died again. I turned off the AC, started it up again and let it Idle for about 20 seconds, reved it up and it was ok. Put it in drive and it's fine, turned the AC back on and its been fine ever since. I have the Juice/Attitude 4.81( I think).
This fuel filter has only 7-8,000 on it and I buy consistantly from a supplier who moves diesel fast.
What I do notice is when the AC is on and I start to accelerate and release the throttle quickly it will almost stall. Any ideas about this would help me out. Thanks

I am not going to say its the "Reason" but my truck acted up this weekend in NV where it was 117. I noticed my edge wasnt booting up with the normal screens when the moved the key to ON....it stayed black...and the truck didnt start. When it did start the screen was working but then the truck died and it was black again. i disconnected my juice and the truck was fine. A few ppl have had heat issues and it may be just a crap box...give edge a call see what they say . Tech support there is cool....and for the record there are im sure a host of other issues possible too...but when in doubt eliminate add ons...

Could also be that the clutch on the A/C compresser is not working right.
LA DMAX 08-03-2005, 01:13 AM Pit and Rebel,
Thanks for the reply. I'll keep an eye on it and call edge in the meantime to see what kind of heat related problems my box may have. I'll be at the dealers later this month, I can ask to have them check the AC clutch, but how do they actually check the clutch to see if it's working right? I hate it when they say "you'll have to pay for the $99.99 AC service for us to check it". I have an extended warranty and I hope it would cover it, but they pulled that same thing with my brakes, "you'll have to pay the $49.99 brake service for us to look at anything". Thanks again.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2002 DA with 45,000 miles. It happened once a couple months ago, then again a couple weeks later. Edge warranted my 4.73 Juice/1.0 Attitude. Within a week after putting on the new Juice/Attitude it stalled again. I took off my secondary fuel filter and lift pump and put on a new GM factory fuel filter. Within a week it stalled again. I was planning to take it to the dealer--seems like it would be an electronics/computer issue.
With each stalling, my truck was warmed up and the AC on. The first three times it died, I had to restart it twice before it would run. The last time I caught it after the first restart by quickly releasing the accelerator. The starts and idles fine after it dies. I have noticed that when the truck is partially warmed up, it runs rough when the AC compressor cycles. Also, since I bough this truck new, it has sometimes almost stalled when I start and release the throttle quickly, AC on or off.
Let me know what they tell you.
Just got off the phone with Edge. The tech told me this is a heat issue. The first question he asked me was where I was located, and when I told him Tucson he seemed convinved it was a heat issue. I didn't have a problem when I was in San Antonio, but even though the humidity makes SA more uncomfortable, Tucson definitely gets hotter.
Thinking about it, the stalling has occurred when the engine has been heat soaked.
The Edge tech said they had a fix for the heat in the works, but it wouldn't be out for a couple months. In the meantime, he suggested I move the actual box from where I have it now (by the wiring harness at the left rear part of the engine compartment) to further down the fender.
65Bowtie 08-07-2005, 07:49 AM mine did this too, stalled twice in a row, at a stop light. But my hourmeter reset at the same time. So now I show like 43 hours at 11000 miles.
BPMOTO525 08-08-2005, 06:38 PM Mine does this occasionally in the summer time as well. I live in Idaho, but it does seem to only do it on hot days when it is warmed up and I try to restart after it has been off for a few minutes. I usually have to leave the key off for a few seconds before it will run right. I also have the juice with attitude.
LTChip 08-08-2005, 08:49 PM Mine did the same thing - have the older Edge (EZAmp) Juice box. When the truck is operating in temps above 95 and it is sitting idol for a while - stop light or tooling slowly around the parking lot - it will rarely stall out when I go to accellerate. Figured it was the Edge hicupping on the heat becasue it has not done it since I pulled the box. I will wait for Edge to come up with their fix before investing in another box - was planning on getting one with the Attitude monitor.
dutch 08-08-2005, 09:16 PM I've had the same problem, not nececarely (sp?) when it's hot out either.
I thought maybe a bad connection somewhere. Always seems to do it when I'm on rough ground out in the field. Have Juice but no attitude.
I talked to Edge again today. The tech told me the heat was caused by the voltage through the box. When the ambient air temp is hotter, the circuitry just can't cool enough. I have ny mox most of the way down the fender liner, mounted on a couple of rubber shock absorber grommets. This seems to be the coolest place on the truck within reach of the Juice's cables.

Thanks for doing the calling, I've been so busy this past week I haven't had time to call Edge. Sounds like we're having the same problems, along with alot of other people. If I get a chance this week I'll call Edge as well, shoot, the more people complaining about the same problem the faster it should move up their priority list. Thanks again.

LA,
I am very glad you posted your topic. I had made a big post about this stalling in the "Fuel System, Air, & Exhaust Upgrades" board. I also had been trying to track down a diesel fume smell issue, and I thought they might be related. Last week, I took off my lift pump and secondary fuel filter. Removing the filter solved the fume smell. I had replaced the Juice/Attitude the week before that.
I was getting ready to take my truck in when I read your post. Your symptoms were exactly what happened to me. I had spoken to John Kennedy and he told me the Juice could make the truck not start and stall, but it was your post that put it all together for me.
NoWake200 08-12-2005, 09:28 PM You guys can add me to the list of stalling. It happened to me today, it was a hot day and the truck sat for about :45. Just started put the AC on, it idled fine when in drive and on the throttle she stammered and stalled. Turned the key and started it back up, back into drive the same thing. This time I turned the key off for a few seconds fired it up and had no more problems.
The second time was scary, I was just about to pull into traffic.
dpc1235 08-15-2005, 01:43 AM 03 D/m Same Problem Yesterday. Juice Additude, Glad Thats All It Is. Started Back Up In 10 Seconds. I Think I Will Relocate My Edge As Well. Thanks Guys!
