I was just wondering the easiest way to go about hooking up my aftermarket gauges. I'm going to be installing a pyrometer, boost, and fuel rail pressure gauges in my truck. I was wondering any tips/tricks as well as the proper places to get accurate readings from. Thanks to all in advance.

I drilled and tapped my pyrometer on the driver's side exhaust manifold. Remove the inner fender liner, and you can drill and tap the exhaust manifold without removing the tire or the manifold itself. When drilling, I let the truck idle. That way the shavings are blow out (Wear goggles) When tapping, I did the same thing, let the truck idle and slowly tap the manifold and any shavings will be blown out. The boost guage fitting was drilled and tapped on a portion of the aluminum intake assembly. This piece is the most time consuming, cause you have to unplug harnesses and unbolt the piece. As for the fuel rail pressure guage, mine is a PPE unit, which comes with a plug in assembly, which was a breeze. As for the wiring, if I recall right, your black will will be a ground, then you will have a red lead wired to your 12V ignition source, and the other lead (White) will hook to your light dimmer switch. It will be a good days project for you but well worth the effort and the money you save doing it yourself.

Why do most people tap the passenger side for the Pyrometer? Is there a difference?

How you install the gauges depends entirely on what gauges you buy. Mechanical gauges hook up different than electronic gauges. Read the instructions that come with the gauges you ultimately buy.

nice setup you have there bartman. Would you mind me asking how much it was, and where you got it from?

I got the gauges and pillar from PPE. They painted the pillar to match the factory one, which came out really nice.

only difference is on the passenger side manifold there is a place with plenty of room all around to drill and tap with no obstacles.

I have egt, boost and rail psi by auto meter I just put in I put the boost line in right before the air intake heater and the egt on the pas side and tapped into the fuel rail sending unit right below the egr. So with the pas innner fender out you can get to the rail psi wires pretty easy and tap the manifold for the egt to. My egt and rail psi are electric and my boost gauge is mechanical.

Did you completely remove from the truck the aluminum peice you drilled/tapped for your boost gauge?
