My entire cluster died yesterday morning. It still lights up, but none of the gauges move. I called my dealer and they are going to look at it, GM might help me out with some of the cost. Will a new cluster fix this, will the new cluster fail also?

Extremely rare that the whole thing stops working so you must have a bad board. All of the gauges stopping is not a stepper issue. The bad steppers were mostly 2003-2004 1/2 and very few 2005+ are reported. If the dealer doesn't help you and wants $700-800 for the repair, call US Speedo for a new one. They have zero mile units ready to ship and can set your mileage to match. Easy to install yourself and will be half of what the dealer wants. Ask about custom gauge faces while they are inside it, they will install it free, just pay for the item.

So GM said yesterday that they were going to cover the parts and labor. Today they call me and asked me to come by and remove the tune from my BullyDog, after they said it wouldn't matter. After I removed the tunes they still couldn't get the cluster to communicate with their computer. They can communicate with all other systems in the truck. They are blaming the BullyDog Tuner. I'm claiming BS. Input please...

My dealer tried 3 times to replace my gauge cluster due to a bad stepper motor and failed each time to be able to the new gague to work with the computer. They blamed it on my Astrostart remote started being in or Sirius box being swaped witht he XM unit. I finally got tired of dealing with them and sent it off to be repaired by a speedo guy www.speedometerguy.com I think it was. He fixed it up and returned it fast. It has worked great very since. My original problem was the stepper motors though.

How can I tell if the Stepper Motors are bad?

Usually one or two gauges do not read correctly. Easy to tell if it is the RPM or Speedo. YOu may be doing 50 and speedo reads 20 or 100 or not read at all. Those are the stepper motor symptoms.

Ok, so after all this the dealer says its fixed. The cause was a DIC fuse. This the first thing I visually checked. I still got a new cluster because they didnt want to spend the time to swap the old one back in.
