So, today I went to downshift and when I pushed the pedal in, it didnt return to the top. I powershifted it the rest of the way home and upon inspection, the dam clutch master cylinder broke free from the firewall.:confused::confused:
Last year I changed to a centerforce dual friction clutch, with flywheel and its been perfect. The new clutch made my pedal waaay more stiff than the stock clutch but that was expected. I've driven dodges before with southbend dual discs that were harder to push in and I've never see this happen before. Looks to be a plastic unit that just from the stress broke free. I dont want to put the same stock unit in, i'd like to upgrade to something stronger if possible. Am I up the creek without a paddle?
Its a 06 Chevy silverado 2500hd, 6.0 gas with the nv4500. I know this is mostly a diesel site but I would imagine that the clutch master cylinder is the same for the zf6 models, but I could be wrong.
I ordered a new stock unit from advance auto, will be here tomorrow if I need to use it, but i'd really like to upgrade to something much, much stronger.
Thanks for any advice....

so, after going to the junk yard and grabbing a new pedal assembly which ended up being the problem and buying a new master cylinder anyways it has happened again. Yesterday while pulling the boat home from the lake the went to shift into 3rd and bam, no pedal. I believe the master is OK but the pedal assembly is junk again. WTF?? The master cylinder pushes right through where it mounts to the pedal assembly. How are you guys not having this problem with dual disc clutches? A dual disc has to be the same if not harder to push in. Can i put an older pedal assembly with corresponding master cylinder in the newer truck? I cant believe this has happened again. I knew something was wrong because I wasn't getting full disengagement and then it finally just crapped out.

Can you post a picture of what it looks like? I have a Mac's setup and I do get firewall flex from the stiff pressure plate, but haven't had this problem (yet).

yea, i'll see if i cant grab a couple tonight. We got the ideal of building a steel one from 3/16" plate with a custom machined master cylinder connection. This had to be machined as you cant build that with an angle grinder and band saw lol but it came out pretty good for the first shot but needs some tweaking. We're not getting full release and the pedal is over to the left about .5 inch too far. If we can perfect it I'd be happy to start building these if anyone would be interested. The guy who machined the piece that the master connects to made about 8 of them so right now they are just lying around.

Here are the pictures of the steel bracket we're working on.

See where the master pushed right through the plastic connector? 2nd time that has happened.

What junkyard did you get the pedal assembly from? I have yet to find any in our area that even has any 8lug trucks!

There is a place in Hopwood pa called sprouts pick-a-part that had one or two and luckily it had a 5 speed. There is also a junk yard right off of route 51 a few miles north of Uniontown that has a huge yard but they are picky on who they let into the yard. Its called Route 51 auto parts I believe but they usually escort you in but other times you can meander about. They had a ton of 8 lug pickups but the only standard that I seen recently was a duramax.
We are working on making the above prototype fit perfectly so like I said if anyone is interested send me a PM. We are trying to make it a plug and play set up. This first one needs modified a little but once we get it down 100% we are going to make a jig to build them so they all come out perfect.

Thanks for the tip. I work at rostraver airport so I'll have to stop out there someday.

You wouldn't be interested in one of these steel units would you? If that's what you are hunting.

Looks pretty good. Do you think this will stop the firewall flex?

Sorry for the late response,
I didn't have firewall flex. The flex that I was having was the plastic housing where you twist in the master cylinder, it was giving and giving and finally just fatigued and let loose.
With this new steel one, I know for sure it didn't flex nor did I see the firewall flex.
