: FACTORY turbo brake on LBZ?

So this past weekend I was pulling a trailer around Dallas and noticed with the T/H button pressed, the turbo held at 1 PSI with my foot off the go pedal. I turned off the T/H option and it would immediately go to 0 PSI under the same circumstances. So since I'm running level 1 on my EVO, I detuned to stock and got the same results.

Did the LBZ come from the factory with a bit of a turbo brake? Surprisingly it helped but then I was only pulling 3k-4k lbs.

ha ha, no. im assuming your talking about slowing down? i know then my truck is in t/h as soon as i take my foot off of the go pedal it starts to slow down. but, the lbz does not have a turbo brake on it. when the t/h mode is on and your slowing down basically all it does is downshift the transmission, while simeltaniously locking the torque converter. in the ends its like jamming it into a low gear, at high speed - using the engine to slow the vehicle, soooo, when it does this, the engine rpms come up so it pushing more air thru the turbo thus making residual boost. i wouldent pay much attention to it.

EVO Level 2 has the turbo brake.

Not to hi-jack, but if where on the subject. When I was towing a few weekends ago, when the truck down-shifted it made a lot of noise and almost sounded like when it down shifts it engages the fan clutch? The engine brake did work well just a lot of noise coming from the fan clutch, or so it sounded. It seemed like it took a min. of driving or so for the fan clutch to disengage.

When was the last time you updated your EVO? They added the turbobrake feature into levels 1, 2 & 3 now, so it could have been that.

What RPM were you at?

Assuming sea-level baro pressure, at zero throttle (coasting) the stock LBZ tune will try to make 1psi @ 1500rpm up to 2.4psi @3000-4800rpm. It's not designied as a turbo brake, it's barely enough to make even a slight difference. If I had to make a quess as to why, it would be to try and maintain some shaft speed to reduce lag when coming off of a no fuel condition.

I wish my '07 came with a turbo brake but GM wasn't smart enough to install those until 2011. Even though the 6.7 Cummins has had one since it came out....

I havent upgraded in a few months (mid summer?) but I did email Edge CS about two weeks ago about adding the brake to level 1 and was told it wasnt going to happen. Maybe they did and CS doesn't know about it.
