I've got to say you guys have a great forum here. I've been casually looking for a Duramax and lurking on this forum for a number of months now and have found it to be extremely helpful.

Now for my question. I found an '04 LB7 truck that I'm very interested in, but it doesn't have an engine block heater. :( I live in Minnesota, so I want to be able to plug the truck in on the long, cold, winter nights. What options do I have for adding a tank/block heater to this truck (approximate costs would be helpful, too)? What type of heater did GM put on these trucks if you ordered it with one?

Thanks for your help.

Yep, the GM diesel's in 04 come with a block heater.

If you look right beside the passenger side in fender, underneath the air intake tube, you'll see a black electric cord trussed up beside a wire bundle. That is your block heater power cord. If you want it to reach out to the front bumper, then you will have to undo some of the plastic sheathing that it is in and pull out the amount you need then tape up the sheathing.

Yup, we bought our truck in Alabama and it had one. They didn't know what it was, or that it was there, but it is.

So I'm guessing that my 02 doesn't have it? I'm looking to move to alaska and I know I'll need a block heater up there. I'm in north west florida right now so it's not a big deal but I'd still like to install one since I'm in the USAF and never know where they're going to stick me.

I'm pretty sure all Dmax's came with them standard.
