I've read numerous posts about Clutch /Flywheel failures on the ZF6/DM combo? Can someone describe what are the typical signs of impending doom with this? I have a feeling this may be the answer to another post I have related to rotational noise I'm hearing when depressing the clutch pedal... :help:
Thanks!

The FIRST and only SURE sign for impending doom is
clutch+DMFW=DOOM:mad:
It is not IF, but WHEN):h

OK, so it looks as if the new DMF design may be trash ( or at best not something we can trust long term ) also judging by some other posts... That leads to only one solution that I've seen so far:
Macs Performance Clutches
Single Disk Street - Kevlar Disk $1650 - with a billet SMF
Dual Disk Street - Organic Disks $1850 - with a billet SMF
I only want to do this job once - bad enough my wife is gonna kick my a$$ for buying a truck and immediately tearing it apart to dump another couple Gs into it...
What is going to be the major drivability difference between the single and dual disk clutch? Any other SMF/Clutch kits out there for the 6.6?

First thing......as long as it works, keep using it...save your $$. Before replaceing with aftermarket, check around....some others are due to be coming out with new cluthc/fw in the very near future......suppose to be very HD.):h

Well, I'm trying to make it last right now but don't want to find myself on the side of the road hundreds of miles from home... What do think the odds are of the DMF completely self destructing if I avoid pulling any trailers or loading it down. Is there any way to "baby" it along while still being able to commute and take short trips in it?

jeff,
Is the DMF rattling when the clutch is partially depressed? If not you are ok for now. I'm on my 3rd DMF with the last one being the "new" design. It has about 25k miles on it and so far so good. I am able to get it to rattle when I'm pulling my 5er (about 10.5k lbs), the Van Aaken on 70 and the RPMs in the 2800 plus range. This rattle wasn't the same as the death rattel I explained in the first sentence.
My opinion, if you are not getting the death rattle...drive on!!!

Thanks Max - Unfortunately it is audible. Not to the point where people are lookin at me funny, but it's there with the pedal partially depressed. Depending on how I drive it, I can make it really sound painful - trying to avoid that for the immediate future.
I have lots of other stuff tryin to get in my wallet right now, so I need to make it last as l o n g as possible. Probably not a good idea to take any long trips with it - even if I'm not towing anything.

I just replaced my original DMF at 109k with the "new" design flywheel. Since I don't pull much hopefully this new design will last longer than the old one. My original clutch still had plenty of material. I figure it would have gone 200k+.

Hey guys. I have an 04 LLY/ 6 speed and it has been a problem since day one. My dealer is an idiot! I already have GMs new DMF, and it seems to be quieter then the last one, but I still get an audible squeak that seems only to occur over 1500 rpm with light throttle or complete lift. GM told me to roll up the windows, no ****!! Also, I pull a little 12ft trailer(maybe 3500lbs) and the truck has started to lurch when at low rpm, like under 1200. I think it is loading and unloading the flywheel. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
