I recently bought a 2001 3500 Dually with a 6 sp manual and have noticed that if the clutch pedal is depressed about half way (while rolling or parked), it makes a pretty substantial loud noise that I can only describe as sounding like gears or something thrashing around. When the pedal it fully depressed everything is quiet and "normal". I've owned numerous lighter gas trucks with manual transmissions and immediately thought throwout bearing - but this just seems like it may be something else since it doesn't resemble a failing throwout bearing noise that I've heard before... Truck has 80K miles and other wise runs perfectly with no other anomalies. Anyone have any ideas? :help2:

Thanks!

Had a similar situation some time back with a lighter duty truck. Turned out to be galling on the pivot shaft of the lever which effects movement of the clutch. Dealer installed a grease fitting for the pivot, problem solved. I'm still surprised at this, as the noise was very loud. Good luck.

Thanks Jeephauler - did yours happen while the engine was off? This sound i'm speaking of is similar to a rotating mass of real noisy gears - only occurring when the engine is running. As mentioned above, it only occurs with the pedal partially depressed, if totally depressed, normal - if totally up, normal. This is why I was thinking throwout bearing - it just seems a little too intense for that though.

Mine only occured while engine was running, and I was for example slowing up to up to a stop. Sounded different than what you are describing though.
