I just bought a used 2001 GMC 3500 with the Duramax 6.6 / 6sp manual and am getting ready to change the filters and fluids before I start pulling anything around... I have a couple of questions.

Is there a datasheet somewhere on this site with all of the fluid capacities? (engine, trans, differential) If not, does anyone have that info or know of a site with it?

Any particular rcommendations on engine oil? (truck is at 80K miles)

Any recommendations on gearbox lube?

Thanks in advance!

Cngratulations!!!! That mileage is not bad for an 01. I traded mine last year and it had a little ove 70,000 on it. My 03 had 22,300 when I bought it in Oct 04 and I now have 76,000 on it and it runs good. I work it.

The owners manual has it all. Check the diesel supplement.

Engine: 10 quarts
Rear Diff: 4 quarts
Front Diff: 2 quarts
Transfer Case: 2 quarts
ZF6 Tranny: Couldn't tell ya'

As mentioned above, check your owners' manual for the weights/grades of the oils and fluids.

As long as you stick with high quality name brand fluids/oils your chances of having a lubrication related failure are almost nil.
