Took my truck (2003 2500HD CC, D/A) to the dealer this afternoon to have the oil changed, tires rotated and the fuel filter changed. I'm used to paying the $132 for the oil change. Although it's outrageous, there's nothing I can do about it. I don't trust the "speedy" type places as the one I went to told me I only needed 6 quarts of oil in my truck! Uhm . . . WRONG! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif And, oh, by the way, you're not touching my truck!!!! Got the heck out of there and ended up back at the dealer!


What's upsetting is that even though I gave them the fuel filter -- they are charging me $106 to put it in! I know a lot of you guys do your own stuff, and I sure wish I could . . . but I can't. $106 for labor for the fuel filter? Any thoughts? Seems way out of line to me . . .

You are getting ripped off big time. I took mine into the stealer in September and had the oil changed (Mobil Delvac 1), oil filter changed and fuel filter changed. The grand total came to $152 for all of this.


If I remember correctly the breakdown was $47 for fuel filter, $10 for oil filter, $30 labor to change fuel filter, $9 labor for oil change, $49 for the oil and the remainder was taxes/shop supplies.

Search around for a local garage that works on diesels. Around here there are local garages that have specialized in trucks and diesels. They give great service, use the right fluids and know what has to be done. Most of the time they are enthusiasts themselves and are as particular as ushttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif.


Also, search for diesel injection service shops in your area. A lot of times they will do complete service. Some are even Diesel Injection/Allison Transmission specialists. There tends to be even more enthusiasts in this business. They know the ins and outs of diesels and can give you very good recommendations on custom set ups for the type of driving/towing you do.


You might be able to ask some Duramax owners in your area who they bring their truck to.


Be careful though there are shady fellows in this business just like the dealer.

I just had my 03 3500 cc D/A in for a fuel filter and spin on allison trans filter change. Filters and labor $97.00 out the door. I thought that was high but it is so cold and I don't have a garage to get it into I chose to have the dealer do it this time.

Unbelievable price ... even for a dealership ... don't know what part of Wisconson you live in but would bet that if you give John Kennedy, who lives in Loyal, Wisconson a call he might be able to recommend a reliable mechanic in your area .... Typical GM labor rates are around $80 right now. It don't take an hour to do all of what you had done Mrs. Mik

What you can do is find out what they charge per hour then find out what GM gives them timewise for an oil change and/or fuel filter change. Some tech on this site should know but no way will they get an hour.

Julie thats ridiculous. My dealer charges about $52 for an oil change. While I change my own fuel filters, any garage ought be able to change them for you.

OK, so who in SE Wisconsin wants to come over and show me how? Dad and I had a father-daughter bonding experience when we changed my rear end (fluids that is -- WATCH it, boys!) over Thanksgiving. Now I know how to do it next time -- all by myself! If there's anyone around here that can show me how to change the oil and fuel filter (oh, and grease it, too!), I'm more than happy to learn! I've never been one to let others do what I can do myself!

I would go to another dealer or two & get a written estimate for the work you just had done. Then go back to the dealership that did the work & demand a refund for the difference if any.

The stealer tells me that "regular" vehicles cost $75 an hour for service. A diesel costs $95 per hour! So, it took them over an HOUR to change the oil filter, eh? They didn't make enough money off me when I bought a $45,000 truck! They need to gouge me every time I need service, too! NOT


I questioned the service manager on the amount of time it takes to change the filter. He told me that that's what GM says it takes. If it actually takes less, well, too bad.


What's a person to do? I needed it done and didn't have much of a choice. They had me by the short hairs. I made sure to tell them that I WON'T be having the work done there any more. I've bought three trucks in three years from this dealer. I think they've made enough money off me. I understand the need to make a profit, but geez, this is ridiculous!
