I can't help you on the swap, but keep me in mind if you are able to perform the swap and want to sell the middle fold down seat. My base model seat won't fold down in the middle.

Yup, the console will fit right in. You have to take the two front seats out because the console bolts to those same holes. You will also need a new plastic glove box trim piece. Otherwise, no modifications are needed. You will probably need another little plastic insert to go where the RSA controls go for the rear seat passengers. The RSA only works with the Bose stereo unfortunatly. I have had my console out before (I replaced my stock console with a Denali console) so if you need any tips or are stuck on something, ill be happy to help!

I
just picked up a center seat and will be taking the consul out. I am most curious about two things. The first is weather I can make some kind of plate to attach the RSE center. I have the DVD player and I don't want to loose the versatility the RSE center gives us. The second is how to fill in the hole at the front. I gather GM sells a piece to go into the dash to cover the hole. But I hear it’s expensive. I have been watching and calling the wreckers but none have anything this new.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give me. As for the guy looking for a center consul, try the conversion shops. RV stores police fire and forestry centers. They all take out the center seats and consuls to mount their toys (computers).

The piece that "fills up the hole" is a longer replacement for the plastic panel that surrounds the glove box. I was originally thinking of buying it, but I've filled up that space with a rear-view monitor, satellite radio, and boost gauge.

When I pulled the console the two biggest problems I had were relocating the Bose amp and plugging the airbox feed to the rear console duct. I was also concerned about relocating the subwoofer, but after I realized that it does little to nothing for the radio's sound, I relocated it to the spare parts heap.

Thanks Wayne. What did you do about the rear seat entertainment panel?

I gather some of the other guys have velcroed the amp to the fire wall. Where did you end up putting yours?
There is a lot of space under the center seat. I had thoguht to use that for the amp or maybe even to build in the woofer. Any thoughts?

I just removed the RSE panel as I had no use for it. If you keep it, you will of course have to run the bundle of wires to it. Removing the panel breaks the rear speaker connections which I just jumpered in the connector that plugs into the RSE panel. I mounted the Bo$e amp on the firewall above and to the left of the go pedal. It's a tight fit and if some of the vents don't work right when you're through, you mounted in in the way of some of the moving mechanism on the side of the heater box. For fastening I made some metal tabs that I slipped into slits I made in the firewall insulation. Unless you figure out something I didn't, don't underestimate the hassle of closing up the bottom vent on the heater box. You can't just put a flat plate on it because the flap on the bottom needs to be able to move. You can't pull the push-pull rod out of the flap and use a flat plate because the rod will jam on the flat plate. I couldn't figure out a way to remove the push-pull rod without destroying something. I finally made a half-cylinder cover out of glued-together plastic pipe fittings that allows the flap to move freely inside of it.

It was a huge hassle, but I just couldn't stand that console closing up all the space, and the builtin armrest on the seat doesn't work for me. If it wasn't for wanting the armrest and storage compartment, I would have just left the space empty. It felt good having all of that open space between the time I took the console out and put the center seat in. If your center seat is the same is mine there is no way to fit the amp under it.

Well, maybe not today but sometime in the next month. Thanks for theheadsup on the problems. I don't know why GM did such a bad job on these consuls. I find the spaces it provides to be totally useless. Actually, there is one that my sell phone fits into. Even the cup holders are hard to use. Gettin your elbow past the top puts your arm at a wweird angle to pull the cup out. A very poor design. I will probable do this some time next week.

Thanks again.

http://dieselplace.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif Center filler piece price
I just stopped by the GM dealer. The center piece to fill in where the consul comes out was about $450 cdn. This didn't include the ashtray insert or a small cup. THe plastic piece wrapps around the glove box. You may also have to replace the glove box itself if the shape is not the same. I didn't spend much time looking at his pictures after he gave me the price.

Someone mentioned an aftermarket cup holder. Anyone know of one?

Had the center consul in the last 2 trucks. Don't know why you guys with the bench and fold down center seat back want a consul. Great to be able to seat 3 across when needed. The consul has a deep hole that doesn't hold much. Wish the LT had a option for a 60/40 or 40/20/40 bench in addition to the consul as an option for those don't who want that god-awful plastic thing.

center console will make a good mount for my 45 with holster for easy access. seen it in several trucks, its really slick.

Anyone have the part number for the glove box trim part when you do this mod(fold-down seat to the center console)?? Looking for the number to an 04 with the dark pewter interior...

I just pulled out the center consul and looked into the new lower dash part. I don't have the number but it is easy to find. All you do is go out into the dealers lot and take the VIN off a truck without a consul. The dash part then shows up as one piece of plastic wrapping around the glove compartment and filling in the center section.

In Canada the retail is $526 and he will give it to me for $460. Not likely. I am thinking about making my own piece with cup holders and maybe gauges. IF you go look at a truck with the third seat in place you will see that the center lower dash piece is about as useless as the consul.

But the third seat is really worth having. If i can make a great filler for the lower dash i will post it.

Good luck.

You can get the 40/20/40 seat in leather-BUT no power on the passenger side and only 6 way on the drivers. I wish Gm would let you order 6 way dr/pass on the AE7 seat or even the A95, but the only way is power DR on anything other than a loaded LT or now LT3. I ended up converting my passenger seat on the 05, Wife could not handle long trips with the stock seat. Not to bad, worst was finding the parts without pauing big $$.
