This is what I hear..not sure but what do you think.
Ford: Lost contract with International.
Dodge: Lost contract with Cummins.
So now Cummins will build engines for Ford, and Dodge is going with Mazda.
And in 2007 or 2009 Chevy is going with the Catipilar...
What do you think? have you heard anything??

Last I heard, Cummins has the contract with Dodge through 2008. Considering how well the relationship has served both parties, I see no reason why either would cancel.

Furthermore, why would Dodge go with a Mazda diesel? Mercedes makes plenty of diesels that would be adequate for the job, and that would be in-house. If anything, Ford would go with Mazda since they bought Mazda up in the mid-90s. Does Mazda even make diesels?

As far as engines go i think Cummins is with Dodge through 2008 and if they change it will be to Mercedes engine but i bet it wears the Detroit Diesel Name since its all the same company. I thought ford was good till 2007 with International if that contract goes it because International is Comming with there Pickup line which will blow the doors off the rest i think as long as they use the DT466 Inline those engines will take a beating but i do know that mazda built small diesel engines and tractors for International Harvester back in the 80s so who knows what will happen. As far as Caterpillar goes in GM thats Nuts gm would have to forget about independent front ends totally they are very heavy compared to Detroit, Cummins plus reach for your wallet to service that cat but they are pretty good engines they are rated higher on Torque levels than other comparable brands. Take a look at the big truck makers most of them are goin back to Inhouse power Like International in 2008, Freightliner/ Mercedes has been for a few years now , Volvo has there own and Mack has been for ever which is gonna be interesting to watch in next few years i think cummins is goin to be hardest hit since cat has Const line

I agree....... Even in the AG world, Cummins is slowly losing Business to other brands, some are in house. MF combines are being switched over from Cummins to SISU diesels, since they are owned by MF ( AGCO ) and have proven themselves to be as good or as better an engine!! The AGCO tractor line is also being switched over from Cummins to SISU. Makes sense, keep it all in house. MF still uses Perkins Diesels ( used to be owned by MF, now owned by CAT. ) So, I can see Cummins taking a huge hit in the future!!

Take care,

Will

Are you joking about this statement? First off GM will probably never land a deal with Caterpillar-too costly to produce and GM already has billions invested with Isuzu and the Duramax Engine. Dodge getting rid of Cummins is unlikely but I have heard speculations that DaimlerChrysler might be going to a Mercedes Diesel but that is all rumor. Ford losing contract with InterTRASHional? I don't think they are losing any contact as they are supposed to be coming out with a twin-turbo 6.4 Powerstroke. I don't know where this info is coming from but I have a hard time believing any of it. Mazda doesn't even make a diesel so I doubt Dodge would put a never made diesel into their pickup trucks.
