Ok so as the title says I want to put a 24v with a p-pump in a mid 80's chevy. I know a 12v would be easy but 24v heads flow better (stock for stock) and can make more power p-pumped that the stupid vp crap. I want to do a built auto too.

Now for the questions:
After I put the p-pump on it there any reason to have a computer of any kind?

Again does a dodge auto work without electonics? If so what tranny options are there? I know a 47re is found on the 98-2002 trucks for sure but I don't know how far they go back in years.

How much manipulation will it take to get all of the stock gm gauges to work? Does it matter if I use gasser guages or diesel guages.

Would it be easier or harder to use a 90's model truck vs 70-80's

I'm not looking for a race truck, I want a reliable trail/towing truck.

TIA

Short answer on the transmission, yes. The 47RH can run with the pedal and OD wired. Make sure you find one from a diesel.

Gauges won't matter. The sending units will fit with a little work and quick run to the parts store. The speedo may be fun depending on the year.

The older trucks might be easier to make accessories work but not by a lot. As long as you have a complete truck.

I plan on buying a crew cab gasser 4x4 and driving the piss out of it until something goes. Shouldn't be that hard to shell one out and will be fun at the same time!

Gassers are cheaper to buy and basically disposable.
