I picked her up 10/04/2010. Today 10/13/2010, i see smoke coming from under the hood on the passenger side. On 10/05/2010, I had smelled this horrible smell of burning something in the cabin, but I attributed it to new engine, oil spill off burning off etc.. well..

The dealer is still in a discovery phase, but the conclusion is that I have an oil leak coming from my crankcase. They've put dye in it to try to locate the origin of the leak, but having a vehicle that hasn't been driven 4 days in a row under the knife is pretty depressing. This is my 12th GM vehicle, and the first to experience this with.

If you are on the fence about something on day 1, act on it, don't ignore it like I did. I suspect I could have taken it back to the dealership and not had to buy something that would be undergoing surgery so soon.

Do a search for the exhaust leaking from the down pipe. I believe it is from the ninth injector and the exhaust not lining up correctly. I picked my Denali up on the 8th. I'll have to watch for mine to be leaking too. Only have 160 miles on mine so far.Maybe someone else can chime in and confirm

I have the same truck and saw the same problem you are having with mine. I ended up taking it to the dealer. When the truck runs in regen cycle it can burn upto 1400degrees fereinheit. There are a few stickers on the exhaust on the bottom that heat up and tend to burn thats what I think the smoking is coming from. I used to get it right at the end of regen cycle which I must say sucks alot of diesel.

I just bought a 2011 sierra 3500 z71 (1,577 miles ) and experiencing the same smoke under the hood and only thing i thought it was coming from was the exhaust or something close to it. i also found oil underneath the front part of my truck close to where the smoke was coming out of. i've taken to the dealership twice already and got the "it's normal" story, going to have to go back again and complain some more. i've had A LOT of trucks in the pass 15 years and i'd say 30-40% of them i've experience something out of the ordinary, this being one of them. seems like its quantity before quality now adays. think its another lemon :(

Its called a regen my truck has smoked four times I at around 2400km you will notice your rpm go to idle at 800-900 and near the end of it starts smoking. Its just the uretha injector running hot burning away all the bad stuff. This is what the dealer keeps on telling me

so it's natural for the smoke to fill the cabin during DPF regeneration?

You could sit in the Non Smoking Section LOL. There is a post that deals with a mis aligned down pipe . GM does know about the problem and should fix it.

isnt the 9th injector injecting DEF and not diesel?

2900 miles on mine, several regens, no smoke, no oil on the engine, never any smell during regen like the 2008 had. I don't think your problem is regen related. 9th injector is diesel.

Add another to the list. My truck is going in tomorrow. Mine has done it twice. I love this truck but am disappointed with some of the issues that I have.

The 9th injector in the downpipe injects diesel, not urea.

The urea is injected further back.

My 09 did this as well when it was new. It was just the coatings and stuff burning off I am pretty sure. It went away after a bit and the truck has zero problem with 40,000 miles on it now.
