I understand that you can track your truck through production. Well I ordered a truck through a friend that ownes a small dealership which is very unorganized. I ordered it like 7 weeks ago and all they can tell me is that it is in the build process. Isn't there a way I can find out at what phase it is in and when I should get it.
What information do I need from the dealer to find this out and how do I track it.

Thanks
Michael

Get your order number and go to camarotracking.com you won't see anything after it is done but you know when it is built.

Actually, under the "customer" section of Chevrolet.com there is an order tracking option. It will tell you what step the truck is at....but you do need your order number. There is no estimation on delivery dates though. It will tell you if it is in transit to your dealer.

SO, Camero tracking says it will update by tomorrow.
Chevrolet.com says it was ordered 9-14-2010, that the dealer has an order number and that when he gets a production slot production will begin. What does all this mean and any idea how long it all takes. I gave the the order mid Aug. and really want a new truck and rid of this Ford.

Thanks
Michael

I'm not positive, but I believe your dealer does not yet have an allocation for this order. Must be a small dealer. Until the dealer gets an allocation, the truck will not be scheduled to be built. Dealer should have told you this when you placed the order.

This.

If you placed the order in mid August, you should have your truck or be real close to getting it.

See if you can maybe get your dealer to trade for one like the one you want from another dealer.I had to order mine when I got it but was at my dealer getting my steps mounted last week and he had one he made a trade for for someone and said he has traded for a few of them now.

So is this 8-2 weeks AFTER he gets a Productions slot.

I ordered mine Sept. 20. It is scheduled for build the week of Oct. 18. I am guessing I will have it by the 2nd week of November.

I ordered mine this week (tues the 12th) and they have allocation for it so they said it is scheduled to be built the week of Nov. 7. This is a pretty decent size dealership so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I would think so,but not sure how it works if they don't have a slot.My order was excepted by the factory, from my dealer right away.I'm guessing that it will take 8-10 weeks for delivery, after the order is excepted by the factory.

Having seen the inner workings of the GM system during my order process, I can say that once the truck order is allocated it can take one to two weeks for it to be built. This time frame varies based on what vehicles are currently in production (ie, they will not just build one crew cab if they are doing a run of extended cabs). Once there is a scheduled production week (yes, it is a week not a day), it will usually be to your dealer within 2 weeks of the production week. Mine was scheduled to be built the week of 10/4, and it was delivered 10/12 to my dealership. My case is a little bit different as I can't take delivery until GM gets some paperwork to my dealership for the buyback part of my deal.

A couple of years ago or could have been sooner there was a guy named Howard that would fiddle with the production schedules to get your trucks built faster. I can't remember his screen name though.

Here is exactly what the schedule was for my truck. This is what the dealer sees when they look at your order. I had to put it in an Excel format, otherwise there is no way I was going to type it out.

Your dealer has the access. Other than that I have no clue.

This is 10 years back now, but when I ordered my '01 8.1L HD 4x4 Crew Cab from Casa Chevrolet's fleet manager in Albuquerque, he was able to tell me that it would be 3 months to delivery. This was the first year for the new HD Silverados, so a similar situation with these new Dmax engines. Pretty popular. Anyhow, it would be a 3 month wait to delivery. I ordered in October, found out it was being built in December, and then the dealer provided me the last 8 of the VIN once it was 'born' from the factory in early January, and I was able to track it on the train as it crossed the country. But I wasn't provided a tracking number until it was made.

howard_m18. I haven't seen a post from him in quite a long time though. He helped me find out about my lemon replacement. Might shoot him a PM and see if he answers...
