: Can't seem to get boost up???
hdmod 07-29-2005, 05:30 PM Made one of those wastegate "crack pipes" with a .125 hole and am running in 4th lock-up down the road. At 45mhp I roll er' to the floor and take it to 3500RPM. I can't get it to 30psi !!! :banghead:
Is my waste gate "bad". If I clamp the line and I can't get up in the 30's, what then???
Should I:
a. go with a bigger hole
B. pinch off the line
c. Go for a fish fry and a beer :beerchug:
d. find Mr Big Head
ratlover 07-29-2005, 05:37 PM Option c is always good.
What are you hitting in 5th gear? 3500 rpm isnt the best place to test boost.
GMC2500HD 07-29-2005, 05:56 PM D seems to be the option you need at this time. Unless you have a better idea.. Maybe you have a bad line somewhere and you are just not seeing it. Had a buddy with similar situation, was a bad line.. Start checking.. Good luck
hdmod 07-29-2005, 06:08 PM What do you mean by bad line???
WHere or how are you guys running your trucks to come up with your safe boost psi??????
I went with B. (crimped the line)and can barely make 30 psi. Now that means this actutator is shot or we need more fuel. This SOB just starts to get mean and it falls off flat!!!
Should I mess with the old actuator to see if it is holding anything or look for more fuel???
GMC2500HD 07-29-2005, 06:21 PM My truck is stock, for the most part anyway.. 32 psi is the most I have seen and that is standing on it, hard...Do you have a boost gauge? If so then we go from there, might be a bad connection causing problems.
hdmod 07-29-2005, 06:45 PM Put on fresh new Autometer pyro and boost gauge on 2 weeks ago----had TST box previous that had it's own display. Again I am tapped in in the smae pipe that the boost sensor is in. I can get it to run up to 35psi for a split second if I let the truck get down if RPM's and stab to load it up on fuel----but it soon clears up and we're back to 28-30. Again I am running the PPE HOt ET program with upgrades in exhaust, intake and FASS pump and full ATS trans
Haven't set a boost code yet either.
03LB-7dmax 07-29-2005, 08:47 PM I have that ppe boost increaser, and i cant hit over 20 Ibs of boost! Whats up w/that, I do have the k@n cold air intake. But still i cant get it up there.

For testing only, remove the hose from the wastgate and plug the hose, leave the wastegate open. Go make a run and check boost. If you see it heading past 35 psi get off the pedal. That will at least let you know if the program can fuel enough to make boost. If you cannot make boost you have one of two things wrong..... poor program or bad wastegate. At this point you can add an addition spring from the pivot point on the turbo back to the wastegate mount. This will help hold the wastegate closed. Retest again, if no improvement it's your program.

Assumeing from your name you have a LLY, if so it will not work. The one I saw was nothing more than a fancy version of our "crack pipe".
hdmax 07-30-2005, 08:35 AM Can't seem to get boost up
The only thing I can think of, is have you tried the purple pill?
C.A.P 07-30-2005, 09:15 AM Iv made several bleeders, the best ones were always a right angle set up that forces air to go around a small corner and then exit a drilled hole with a adjustable allen screw to controll the boost, however go BIG or dont go at all,
hdmod 07-30-2005, 12:21 PM Well Boys, I went with B. and pinched off the line. Boost in 4th lockup was 30psi!!!!!
smoke was not real heavy. If I smash the gas down hard on lower RPM and get stack of fuel I an get it to blip up to 35psi for a second and then it falls off to 30psi. I guess I will send the box back to PPE and have them fuel it up some more like they suggested. I will put a spring on the wastegate today to see if I can hold it closed to see if that works. Why do they claim to give you the "BIG" power and then sell you a "short on fuel" box??? They say they program them for guys with or with out upgrades to the truck!! Well I say BS!!! IF you are going to buy a box that claims big HP you better have you s@@t upgraded to handle it!!! Now I have to waste a week to wait to get the thing reprogrammed?? I don't understand---I don't understand---I don't understand!!!!!! I should be worrying about having too much fuel!!!!! If you order the BIG MAC in the drive through and get down the block and open the bag and find out they gave you the plain hamburger you know what you are saying in the truck!! @#%*&$!
I don't want to sit here and whine all the time-----but i am very frustrated at this time. I will be on the dyno today and get some baseline numbers and such. If I had all the money in dyno time back I could build a box!!! Have a good weekend truckers!!
C.A.P 07-30-2005, 01:55 PM call ppe they are very costomer friendly, and will work with you on fueling, be carefull on what you wish fo (more bost is not always benifecial) trust me I-:t one ,
Dmax Tim 07-30-2005, 03:23 PM Well Boys, I went with B. and pinched off the line. Boost in 4th lockup was 30psi!!!!!

was your box set up for bigger injectors?
stick some 40% overs in it and see if u still have problems.
BTW how's your fuel filters and cp3 output, maybe it's getting week.
hdmod 07-30-2005, 05:54 PM We are at 23055 at the rail on desired and actual. My FASS filters are fresh. I would like to know from the guys making 490-500 what kind of boost they are making, what injectors. I assumed by what I have been reading that if you get the ppe hot or the tts extreme or do a stack with the quad and juice------using stock injectors, that you could obtain those numbers. We wired the wastegate closed today and got 31psi and a medium haze for exhaust. So we will try more fuel. NOW!!! If you get fueled up fo running on the street with a 7000lb truck will we be drowning in fuel if we go pulling?????? There isn't half the demand for fuel when your rolling compared to pulling??
GMC2500HD 07-31-2005, 08:44 PM You keep pinching that line off and you will be spending your money to buy a new turbo...:badidea:
hdmod 07-31-2005, 09:33 PM I don't want to sound sarcastic but I would love to break something on this thing----but I don't think I will with the power of the PPE Hot. I see posts of guys stacking this with the VA200. I have a VA200 and may try that. I will have a Big Head by mid week and hopefully get the PPE Hot refueled and back by Thursday----Looks like another weekend of pulling is slipping away. I see a guy posting to find out how to get 700 out of his LLY----Still waiting for someone to tell me that I am wasting my time with VA and PPE and the only way to get to 500 for me is to go to TTS or a Quad/juice stack!!!?? I've got the money---who has the real deal out there???!!!
ratlover 08-01-2005, 11:12 AM Well I wont say buy a TTS but it seems to work ok for me;)
Here is all I have done to my truck. TTS Xtreme, liftpumps, exhaust, afestage2 intake.
Run about 30 psi measured pre intercooler and make in the 490's HP. I recently moved my wastegate line to after the intercooler and picked up about a pound of boost, I run about 31 ish now. I dont know how much if any that pound got my since I havent dynoed it.
I also have N2O and a built trans.....stock injectors, stock wastegate, nothing really all that wierd. Just a programer.
Here are a couple no BS options.
A Hope PPE works out for you.
B Buy a Quad juice to stack
C Buy a TTS Xtreme
d Look into the other tunes out there like westers ect.
Here is the truth on option C. You will have a waiting period. If you dont want to wait dont buy it. Nobody ever said it comes quickly although lotsa people like to use its waiting period as a way to make it sound inferior. It will delivered as promised but you will pay $$$ for it and have to wait. Dont like it dont buy it. The TTS is also a great drivable program. I run with it set to kill daily, very controlable with no real wierd quirks. I do click it down for cruise control(its switchable) other wise cruise gets a bit wonky.
hdmod 08-01-2005, 10:26 PM Tank you, tank you, tank you!!!!! What lift pumps you run and how many PSi does that second pump put out???
ratlover 08-02-2005, 09:49 AM I run dual fm100's. At the time they were one of the few pumps that were rated for diesel so I went that wroute instead of an unkown. Plus they have built in filtration. I have them running in parallel becasue I didnt think one would be enough to feed my truck. With them in parallel they dont make more pressure they just put out more vollume. Series will make more PSI. If I had to do it again right now i probably would go with the TTS pump set up becasue of the nifty electronics and the quick dissconects that come with it that make the install a breeze. Although I like how I have aux filtration built into my set up. the fm 100's are a stanadyne unit, reliableindustries.com or hdiesel.com are people I know of offhand that sell em. I dont know of a supporting vendor that does but you may try and contact some. The fm 100's can have a heater installed too, filtration down to 2 mic, water drain. Nice set up IMO. But you have to get all the peices ect and plumb the whole thing and if you use AN and pushlock stuff the fittings can get $$$.
ratlover 08-02-2005, 10:00 AM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33069&highlight=pump is a good thread and I think somewere in it it talks about what kinda pressure the components of the fuel system can handle. its rather long though.
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38760&highlight=pump here is another recent thread
the search feature is your friend;) there has been lotsa disscusion on all kindsa different pump set ups ect
