Just read an article in Diesel Power Magazine about A Sleepermax project that included a 06 LBZ, This is really tempting in that most of us are half way there now. I think that I would like to maybe change out my stock turbo and install that Garrett GT3788R, but am wondering if that would be ok if I only have a stock Allison? I wouldn't be going for alott of HP,and don't want to spend allot of cash, but would like to set up for better gas mileage and Lower EGT's for a lasting effect, or longevity, (If you will). Does anyone know how much it would take to upgrade to that Turbo? Is anyone else out there wondering after reading this article? Just curious that's all.

Sure made me think after I read it. I know DP magazine is gonna put twins on that truck, but you might be better off going with a single turbo, like a Cheetah. Its suppost to wake up the dmax a lot plus it fits right where the stocker sits

How are the internals gonna handle upgrading the turbo to a garret or Cheetah. Are you gonna have to start worrying.

From what I hear, it's actually better for your engine. I'll still worry but with a grin on my face.:HiHi:

Your internals will handle around 650-700rwhp but no gurantee the stock Allison won't handle much I dropped mine at 450rwhp and the money you would spend on an aftermarket turbo get your trans built and have it tuned for better mileage no point in putting a larger aftermarket turbo on if u aren't going to use it your stock turbo should support 550rwhp but again no guarantees...you pay to play don't cheap out on the important parts

likely worth it to spend some in the OEM Allison section as well as the "built" tranny section. Good info there on Allison - stock and what it can handle. I've always thought/read that anything over 450 RWHP stock is about the limit...with a transgo (jr), maybe 500-525 but thats pretty much the limit for a "stock" ally.

am agreed with scatter - play..? you gonna pay

Without going for max HP/TQ...you can easily spend 10k on longetivity alone. FS2500, AirdogII, EGR Delete, Stage I/II water meth, EFI Live...perhaps even driving - not like a lunatic..?? :D ..just sayin

Theo,.....You are right on target! I like the way you play. This is my goal. I'm only looking for longevity. I've got a start on it with EFI, EGR delete. Now on to the others when we get someone in office to alleviate the "GRIP". and....as soon as I find some one who is reputable in the transmission spotlight closer to me. See ya around the camp sight sometime. Gary
