Is this a good idea or do they need to be replaced as a set?

My #7 is smoking like a freight train. I turn it off with EFI and the smoking quits, along with it's balance rate being a bit off.

you could just replace one, but i wouldn't suggest it. there is a large labour time in doing this so most recomend doing all 8 at once while your doing them. that way you know they are all new. if one is bad, the rest are going to be soon to follow. atleast do the 4 on the passenger side (the side number 7 is on) if you can't afford to do all 8. then when one goes on the drivers side you can do those 4. just my .02

I repalced a single injector a year and a half ago and still running fine. I have been adding 2 stroke oil to each tank of fuel. keep in mind it is nearly half the labor since your only opening one side. With injectors being so fricken expensive, was more than worth it to me.

Wish mine had the "Smoke at idle" failure and I would sure be replacing just the bad ones. Since it is my time it is free for me. But no mine have to fail in the "making oil" category and I have not found a way to find the bad ones yet. Will see when I open up the engine.

I'm in the middle of injectors now (waiting on fuel lines) and if it were me, I'd at least do the 4 on one side you have open. It is a PITA to tear it down to that point. The 4 bolts on the valve cover next to the firewall on the drivers side are a pain.

Only had one copper washer stay in and of course it was #7 which you can't see in because of the brake hydro booster. Mirror and a flash light with a pick was fun to get it out.

Yes, I'd replace just one. Just make sure to vacuum out the debris on all the other injector's inlets on that bank. Usually a bunch of rust falls in when the lines are loosened.

You can take off upper valve covers and lines and reinstall with a line bypassing the ficm and pull the plug on the PR start truck and wait a minute and it will come blowing out like a pressure washer, went through the same problem in Canada this year and this is how i found it,hope this helps

How much two stroke oil do you add with each tank of fuel. what is the ratio per gal .

Thanks in advance

I was hoping that I will be able to see the fuel leaking on the bad injector(s). For the past couple of years it has only been about 1 qt per 3000 miles but recently it is closer to 1 qt per 25 miles so I might have a chance at "seeing" the leak. Thanks. Now I will be using EFILive to help pick the side where I will start.

1/2oz./gal. I just use 16oz empty water bottles and keep them on hand. I get the cheap (under $10) gallon jug of 2 stroke outboard oil from walmart.
