Well, here's the pictures of the twins on my LLY. I grabbed the truck from Nathan before everything was coated. Nathan said I could post the pics anyway.

I've been dying to take it to the dealer "I don't know what's wrong with it, just dosen't run like it used to, it makes this loud whistle and the tire wear is terrible, maybe you have a bulletin out for the problem, or maybe needs a reflash."

I'm glad these pics have finally been released! Rob, your setup looks great and makes me jealous. Can't wait until mine receives the updates in a couple weeks :) Great job Nathan. You know I already appreciate all you've done on this project. I'm glad I was a part of the project and testing and could offer my input.

LB7 looks similar. The concept is the same the piping is just a bit different.

I wonder what kind of impact that exhaust pipe is going to have on the A/C line...

Is that pipe already turning blue from the heat?

A/C has been unaffected. I've used it a lot lately. Everything about the engine compartment is hotter, including that line, but I've noticed no noticeable impact on the cooling ability of the vehicle.

Heat shielding the feed pipe for the second turbo would do two things, increase boost and reduce underhood temps.

If I am not mistaken, you can use one battery if it is a gel cell? yes?

IdahoRob

The second battery is in the tool box for now. Nathan is looking into a gel battery set up to go on the frame, but we ran out of time. The filter is an AFE. The A/C works great, it was 103 degrees today and the cab was cool. We talked about wrapping the hot pipes, and I'd like to do that.

Maybe I'll find a beat up hood and cut a hole for a stack, although I'd lose my stealth mode.

Thanks,
Rob

Turbo Habit? more like "Appetite For Destruction!" ):h (It's either that or i am a gluttlon for punishment/like blowing them up take your pick)

Good idea ;) Steve gave me some ideas as well when he looked at them.

I've been running with one Optima red top for two months now. No problems. The second battery is only going to be needed during cold starts (winter) or if you have a lot of accessories on while the truck isn't running.

Nathan has always wrapped the hot pipe on his Cummins, but on IdahoRobs he did not have the wrap at the time. Some good ol header wrap works wonders on those hot pipes to hold the heat in and keep the gas movin' along faster to the primary.

In the end, they will all be wrapped or ceramic coated.

i also seen on my turbo snowmachine that after wraping the pipe and adding a cerramic coating increased spoolup time, also kept under the hood temps in line

As far as the heat from the exhaust goes you might want to look into these guys:

Read about them on TDR with a guy in Europe doing a cummins project into a Suburban. He swears up and down on their products.

I wrapped the headers on my 89 rat gasser to help control under hood temps. I don't think I would do it again as I think it helped rot them out.:( They got a lot of holes in them that I needed to weld up after about 2 years. The chrome didn't last at all and they were a high end header.

What kind of skill level and Install time does this take?

Idaho CTD
08-10-2005, 10:34 AM
benz020,

The LB7 stuff wont be done for a while yet. At the earliest it will be the end of September but that all depends on how much hunting I do in September. Realistically I'm gonna say October.

ZR1150,

You have to be fairly mechanically inclined to install the kit but most shade tree types can do it. It's fairly time consuming though. For a first time installer that isn't a mechanic by trade I would figure 2-3 days. Just tearing down the truck can take 3-4 hours with hand tools if things dont play nice.

drhutch,

I am trying to work a deal with the local coating shop to coat all the pipes with ceramic (unless someone wants a special color then it's powdercoating) and I will only wrap a small portion of the hot pipe where it is under the cowl and the down pipe near the fuel filter. Usually I spray the wrap with the black silicone spray to help shed water. The hot pipe wont see much water up under the cowl but the down pipe will.

I'm kind of new at this but wouldn't you have to buy a new intake manifold for the second unit?

Idaho CTD
08-12-2005, 02:29 PM
Nope, the twin turbos used in most diesel applications are plumbed as compounds even though they are refered to as twins. One turbo pumps air through the other. Yes you do need a different air filter but the intake manifold stays the same.
